The Shoemaker's Wife was a lovely story about immigrant kids coming to America for very different and very similar reasons. The love story is one to last through the ages and remembered as one of the great ones. I love passing on stories as good as this and hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.
This is sure to be a classic. It has more emotion on one page, than most books have in it's whole. Each character draws you in and holds you with your every fiber. I don't think I could recommend it enough.
Have you ever read a memoir and instantly wanted to be the persons friend? That was how I felt before I ever got through the first chapter. Fu has a way with words that I am most impressed with, especially since finding the right ones to describe your personal life are so hard to come by. She is an inspiration and truly a model citizen we should aspire to be in some way. This goes on my shelf of favorites.
I connected to Gal almost from the start. This character reminded me of my aunt in so many ways. It was a warm and tender book about our connections to the people around us, that we may not even know are there until it is literally thrown in your face. The references to the rose books and the rose theme worked splendidly and if you are like me-you might even learn a few things about the whole rose society. I can't wait to pass this book on to my aunt...I think she will get a kick out of it.
This was an overall good book. Not fabulous, but good. I like the story's ever changing narrative. AndI even liked the setting and story line, but for some reason I was just read for the end to come. It seemed to drag on when it could have moved a little faster. With that set aside I would recommend it to others.
This is a must read! I hardly ever give a book 5 stars, but this one deserved it! It had me going from beginning to end and although I know the characters were fictional, I wish to no end they where real. I actually wanted to cry when I got to the last few pages. I will without a doubt be passing this book along.
I usually do not care for this kind of book, but I think I have fallen in love. It did my heart good to read a realistic account of long marriages. The ending is pridictable, but to be honest- I wouldn't change a thing. Wonderful novel.
Tiger Hills is at once a bitter sweet story of love and loss. It helps cement the connection we all have with family and friends. True this story has many twists, but then so does life. It made me see that this coming of age/love story can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Lovely story.
