The Skeleton Box

Wow! An intelligent debut mystery that involves a bunch of well-developed characters who almost skate right off the page. I know absolutely nothing about ice hockey but I was swept up in this snowbound page-turner and couldn't put it down until I reached the last page. Well done, Mr. Gruley. I'm waiting for the next one....

Very moving teen histroical fiction that everyone should read. A truly great book and a sure award winner. I couldn't put it down and now I can't stop thinking about the characters. Thank you, Ruta Sepetys!
The End of the World as We Know It: Scenes from a Life

I read this book because I was intrigued by the author's novel, A Reliable Wife. End of the World is a very moving memoir that leaves you wondering how the author makes it through the day, and I'm astounded that he has the energy to produce 2 very fine books. The tragic effects of bad parenting are heartbreaking and I won't forget this family. The two books together could lead to a great book group discussion. Mr Goolrick: Please keep writing. We need your voice.
A Fierce Radiance: A Novel

Excellent WW II fiction that takes place on the home front, mostly in New York City. Today we can hardly imagine the time before the discovery and development of antibiotics when a person could die from a scratch on the knee. And children routinely died from strept thorat and pneumonia. But the development of penicillin changed all of that.

Columbine

Excellent book that should be required reading for all teachers and parents. It's not only about Columbine but about what can happen in a community when tragedy strikes. Thank you, Dave Cullen, for an excellent book. I won't forget it anytime soon.
