Johansen's fast moving prose initially offsets the melodrama. The melodrama then becomes tedious and you begin to wonder why she is dragging it out. You find out at the end, that she has no intention of pleasing her readers and only wants to sell another book. There is absolutely no reason to read this book. Even if you are a fan of the 'Eve Duncan' continuing story, this book offers absolutely nothing to the story line.
The book had a good storyline. Unfortunately, the writing detracted from the story. It just did not 'flow'. I had two impressions while reading as to what the problem was...1. It was written by a high school student.2. It was edited in detail and the 'flow' was lost in the editing.
Like First Contact by Kenneth Ingle, this book appears to be a commercial scam. The free Kindle preview is well written. You purchase the book and find out the rest of it appears to be written by a 12 year old on drugs. Both books have the identical implausible story line of first contact with predatory advanced species. Superior human intelligence allows the humans, in a few days, to build weapons that destroy entire fleets of advanced aliens. It is sad that we can not even trust the kindle books we purchase.
