The Alchemyst tells the story of the immortal Nicholas Flamel. Nicholas and his wife Pernelle have been looking for the legendary twins for centuries. The legendary twins are in a ancienty profecy that states that they will save the world form the dark elders. The dark elder are called by many names. They are most commonly known as gods. Greek gods, Norse gods, Celtic gods etc. Josh and Sophie Neweman are the twins of legend, but they don't know it, yet. Josh has a summer job working in Nicholas's book store while Sophie works across the street. One day a mysterious man walks in to the book store. The man's name isDr. John Dee, an immortal working for the elders. John Dee destroys Nicholas's shop looking for the Codex (book that will bring the dark elders back into the world). John Dee steals the book, but Josh rips out the last two vital pages without John Dee knowing. John Dee also kidnaps Pernelle and keeps her prisoner on Alcatraz. Know Sophie and Josh are know introduced into the world of magic and there is no going back to normal. Now with the help of Nicholas, Josh and Sophie must learn all foour magics and stop the dark elders. This book had mythological creatures living in the modern world. The action through out the book was amazing. The characters had a lot of sense of humor in the book. This made the book more enjoyable to read. Nobody wants a book without humor! There are many other magic books like Harry Potter, but if you give this series a chance, you can clearly see that this series is like nothing you have ever read before. The only thing I don't like is that the book is told from everyone's point of view. It's told through Sophie's point of view, Josh's, John Dee's, Pernelle's and even a rat's. I recomend this book to anyone who like humor/action/magic books.
This book is about a group of orphans and a thief. Prosper and Bo and two brothers who an away from home to Venice. They run into a group of orphans and, their leader is a theif. He steals from rich homes and gives them what he steals. Later in the book, you find out that the thief lord is a fraud. They are making a good living off their stolen tresures until Prosper's and Bo's aunt and uncle hire a detective to find them. If they find the brothers they will also find the other orphanes. Now they must be extra carefull in where they go but you can always count on the Theif Lord to keep them safe! This is probably one of my favorite books. I like this book so much because there are theifs involved. I especially enjoy how the Theif Lord just sneaks around houses without being caught. This book was a decent size for me. The only thing I did not understand was that the last two chapters involve magic. The book is not even about magic until the end. Although the end makes no sense I enjoyed this book as one of my favorites. I recomend this book for people who like mystery books.
At the end of the first book Frodo and Sam get separated from the rest ofthe group, because orcs attack them. Marry and Pippin are carried off by the orcs. Now Aragorn, Gimili and Legolas must find and rescue them. Frodo and Sam continue their journey with the help of Smegle (onc a hobbit, now a weird lokking creature obsesed with the ring.) As Marry and Pippin get carried off, the orcs are attacked by Rohirans (men from thekingdom of Rohan.) Marry and Pippin run into Fangorn (big and old forest.) In the forest the encounter Tree Beard (ent.) Meanwhile Aragon, Gimili and Legolas try there best to find the two hobbits. Later theyfind Gandalf who had fallen ino an abyss in the previous book. Gandalf explains to them how he survived, and how he become Gandalf the white. He used to be Gandalf the grey. After spending some timewith the ents, the hobbits and Tree Beard discover that Sourman (bad wizard) has cut down thousands of trees. The ents get angry and take over Isendgard (the place where Sourman lives.) Sam, Frodo and Smegle get captured by Gondorians (men who live in the kingdom of Gondor.) The Gondorians let them go as they engage orcs in a battle. What Sam and Frodo do not know is that Smegle is leading them to their death, because he wants the ring. This book was even more amazing than the second one. The author showed the reader much more of Middle Earth (where the book takes place.) For example, the book introduces the reader to Gondor and Rohan. There was also much more action in the book. There was probably 5 battles in the book. Many new characters where inclded as well. The return of Gandalf made the book and the series more interesting for me. I recomend this book to readers who want an action packed book with mysticalcreatures.
This book ends The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The final battle draws near. The endless hordes of orcs arrive at Gondor where man must make his final stand against them. As the battle draws near Aragorn, Gimili and Legolas try to ask for the help of the ghosts. The ghosts have been cursed, by the former king of Gondor, to never pass on. Since Aragorn is the heir tothe throne of Gondor, he has promissed to lift the curse if the ghosts help them fight the orcs in Gondor. Meanwhile, Smegle leads Sam and Frodo into a trap. He leads them into the den of a gant sider. The spider raps Frodo in its web,but hen Sam fights it off. Orcs come and take Frode (still wrapped in spider webbs) and Sam follows them. As the Gondorians fight their battle, the Rohirins come to help them. The ghosts eventually come and kill the remaining orcs. Aragorn lifts te curse, and they pass on. Aragorn, Gimili, Legolas and Gandalf discover there is one more battle to betaken place at the Black Gate (entrance to Souron's kingdom.) Know man must finish one more battle to save Middle Earth,.This book was my favorite in the series. The two big battles where amazing to read about. The author adding ghosts made the book more exciting. After the humans one the first big war, I thought the book would be over, but then they discover there are more enemies to kill. That part just blew my mind. The giant elephants made the bookmore interesting as well. I liked how Aragorn finally became king. I recomend this book to readers who want action packed books with mystical creatures.
Inhertance is the final book in a long series. In this final book, Eragon and the Varden attempt to take over Algaesia and kill the evil king. Murtag (Eragons half brother) is stronger than ever and still sides with the evil king. Roran's (Eragons Cousin) baby is finally born in his book. During the book a dragon egg hatches to Arya (elf) as seen on the front cover. Over their bloody campaign, the Varden is joined with the were cats. Now the king must withstand Elves, Dwarves, Urgals, Werecats, a Rider and his dragon. The final battle of good vs. evil finishes in this book. This book was so loooooong! It took the author 120 pages to finish a topic in this book. I litaraly skipped a couple of pages because the author reapeted the same thing over and over again. I had been waiting a long time for this book and was ssadly disapointed in waht I read. The ending was the worst part of the story. After all of the things Eragon does he ends up all alone, he is stuck with teaching the next generation of dragons. Eragon saves all the races in the world and ends up all alone! In the series you think that Eragon and Arya would end up together, but no it does not happen. The book was too long to have a sad ending. I suggest this book for people who like reading books that wil take up two months of your life reading 825 pages!
This book continue the Heros of Olympus sereis. This new book is told from three other points of view; from Percy's, from Hazel's view and from Frank's view. Percy was sent ,by the wolf Lupa, on a long journy. He does not know were he is going, but monsters attack him constantly along the journey. Percy (like Jason in book 1) has no memory of who he is. By the time he is at the end of his long journey, he comes apon a camp for people who are demigods (one of the parents was a god) or people related to demigods. In the camp, there is constant talk about Roman gods, Percy always gets a weird feeling when gods are mentioned, as if he is trying to remember something. Whenever someone talks about the name of a god, Percy always knows the Greek name for the god. Percy only knows the greek names because there is another camp for greek demigods. For some reason Percy is in a roman camp for demigods, with no memory of his life. Percy soon finds himself caught up in a quest to free Death (the god) in order to save the world from the evil god Gaea (the god of the earth or mother earth, what ever you prefer.) Gaea is only asleep for know, but her giant sons are trying to resurect her from her slumber. This book was better than the first one for many reasons. First, it had Percy Jackson in it. The series basically revolves around him. Seconldy, you get to read about the roman camp, which is talked about in the first book. The last reason was that there was more humor and action in this book. In the book, you also get to read about the giants more. What I did not like was that every once in awhile Hazel (one of the main characters) has flashbacks about her old life in the 1800s. The flashbacks were very boring and hard to get through without falling asllep. Other than that, the book was amazing. I recomend this book for readers who like the percy jackson series, and like action/humor packed books.
The Hobbit tells the story of Bilbo Baggins. Billbo Baggins is a hobbit (very short person) who lives a simple life. He never does anything out of the ordinarybut, until one day his friend Gandalf (old wizard) pays him a visit. The next day Gandalf arrives at Bilbo's front door with 13 dwarves, asking Bilbo for a favor. They ask Bilbo to help steal back their treasure from a fearsome dragon that stole the treasure from them. Bilbo agrees and is swept away on an exciting journy for lost reasure. Along the way Gandalf, Bilbo and the 13 dwarves face many dangers such as the trolls that attempt to eat them. this noel was an action/adventure book that will satisfy all Lord of the Rings fans.I like this book a little bit more than The Lord of The Rings books. I did not enjoy the story line more, but I liked how the story was told from one point of view. In The Lord of The Rings series, it was told from three points of view. I also liked how all the dwarves had their own crazy and different personalities. This made the book more enjoyable. The book was so enjoyable that I could not put the book down, I kept telling myself that I would stop, but then I would get to a good part and keep reading. If you have never read The Lord of The Rings series I would suggest to start with this book. I recomend this book for anyone who is a Lord of The Rings fan or someone who needs a good book to read.
This book tells the story of a girl named Riva, and her struggle to survive the Holocaust. At the begining of the book Riva is living happily in Poland until the Nazis invade, and take her mother away. Soon Riva and her three brothers are taken to a ghetto. In the ghetto there is little food, water, medicine or heat in the homes. One of Riva's brothers die of turburculosis in the ghetto. Soon after that, Riva and her two brothers are packed into cattle cars and are taken to a labor camp. There Riva gets separated from her two brothers. In the labor camp, Riva's head is shaven, she is constanly rushed in and out of the bunks by the guards, and she is trying as hard as she can to survive. Later she gets sent to another camp where she get a blood disease in her arm. Very quickly she gets sent to another camp, but the Russian very quickly liborate the camp and Riva is finally free. This was an emotionally powerful book. To emagine that someone would have to endure these things in this book sound unbelieveable. The book has much sorrow in it too. Yet the main character constantly reminds herself to survive and stay alive. I have never read about the Holocaust before, and this was a big eye-opener for me about WWII. This book was assigned to me in Language Arts class, but I enjoyed it. This would be a book that I would actually get from the library and read. I recomend this book for people who want to know about the Holocaust.
This is the second book in the six book series. Septimus Heap continues his wizard training. All is good in the kingdom until a mysterius stranger wearing all black comes. Even the horse is black. The mysterious stranger is actually Septimus's brother Simon. Simon kidnapps his sister who is about to become the queen. Now Septemus must team up with his other 5 brothers to save his sister. I recomend this book for wizard lovers. This book was much better than the fisrt book. Although it is better than the first book, it kinda stinks. The whole series stinks in my opinion. The only part I thought was cool was the magic. All of the spells are spelled wrong on purpose. For example: magic is magyc, and dark is darke. It gets confusing. There is not enough action. To much dialog and not interesting.
The Sorceress continues the series of Nicholas Flamel and the legendary twins. Nicholas and the twins leave Paris and go to London, the heart of were evil creature live. They go to Paris so Sophie can be instructed in the magic of water. They have to find king Gilgames (oldest immortal in the world) first. It's hard to find one man when you have creature from myths chasing you around London. So Nicholas and the twins go to Palmades (good immortal) and William Shakespear (also good immortal, and yes I am talking about THE Shakespear). John Dee becomes irritaded with Nicholas avoiding him, so John Dee plans to kill him with the help of Curnion the Archon. (The Archons are a race that came before the Elders). Now Nicholas, the twins, Palamades and Shakespear must fight off two dangerous foes. This book was more action packed than the first two. Pernelle finally escapes Alcatraz and reunites with her husband. This book had many new and devious creature than book 2. When you read the series, you relize there are barely any good immortals. This gives Nicholas and the twins a hard time, but the twins's magic is much greater than all the immortals combined. I did not like John Dee's flash backes in the book. They were boring to me, but other than that it was a good book. I recomend this book for redears who like humor/action/magic books.
