I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. I admit I don't like the idea of the games. Children killing children is wrong. I like Katniss. She is a strong young woman. She does what is necessary to take care of her family. I liked Rue. I hate that she died not long after Katniss got to know her.I think the book has a good message/story. I also think it could stand the test of time. It could be one of the books still talked about in 50+ years.
I said it last book. I'll say it again. It is time to wrap up the Amber being sick and in danger storyline. I use to like Jonas, but now the way the author is writing him I don't like him as much. I didn't feel as this book was written that well. It didn't seem to flow as well as it could have. I'm really not sure why I'm still reading this series. The books haven't been good lately.
I really like the world the author has built. However it's starting to seem like the author is a one stop shop. This is the 3rd book I've read by her. The names have changed. The danger has changed some. The rest is the same. Alpha male falls in lust/love with a female. Female doesn't want to move that fast relationship wise. Guy tries to protect girl from bad guys. Girl gets herself into trouble. Guy rescues her. Guy moves her into his home. Girl doesn't want to move into his home. If it wasn't for the fact that Ms. Ashley made me laugh out loud a lot, I would stop reading this series. I'm hoping the next books are better.
I was pleasantly surprised by the story. It did bother me that Ms. Johnson wrote about Katrina. I had family & friends in New Orleans and Mississippi at the time of Katrina. Everyone made it fine, but it's still tough to read about the destruction. I did think the author did a good job writing about it. My biggest issue with the book is the title. It really doesn't fit in. Royal Street is mentioned but it's not the main street events happen on.
I was really impressed with this book. I liked the world J.D. Tyler is building. I'm ready for more. If you've read The Firefighters series of Jo Davis, this is the same writer. I think this is going to be a good series.
I read book 2 in a day. It again is an easy good read. A good story was told. I liked that Katniss still took care of those in the Hob by buying from them. What I didn't like is that Katniss is now a pawn for the revolution and Capitol. She's not kept in the loop. She has no say. Both sides try (and sometimes do) use her to their advantage. She wants to keep her family safe but there doesn't seem to be a good path. She is the visual image of the revolution. She has to be kept alive to keep it going. Revolution is needed, but a 16/17 year old girl shouldn't have to think about being the face of change. I also see why she was kept out of the loop. She's too young to have to make the tough right decisions. However, she is the one that has taken care of her family since her father died.I did like the arena of the games. I thought it was neat that it was a clock with different bad things.I did not like how it ended. In a way, there could not be a "happy" ending for book 2.
I was pleasantly surprised by this author. It was a really good book. The only thing I have a problem with is the different points of view of certain scenes. I don't mind the different points of view. I do mind reading almost WORD FOR WORD what I already read. I've seen other authors do scenes like this before. They are not repetitive in nature or information. They write it in such a way they gloss over the same stuff and give new interesting info about the same scene.
I so loved the first book, but now I'm only reading them because I like the characters and I already bought the rest. This one did not make me laugh out loud that much. If I didn't like the characters so much, it would be a 2 star rating. It is the same story again. There is no originality to the story. Alpha male meets hot chick that is in trouble. Alpha male & rest of males save the girl. Granted this girl actually can save herself. That is the only change. Right now I say read the first book of the series and let that be it.
