Summary of the Story: The barnyard rooster crows to tell Jack it's time to get up. It's very early in the morning - and Jack is so hungry that what he really wants is a large pancake for breakfast. But first, Jack's mother needs flour from the mill, an egg from the black hen, milk from the spotted cow, and butter churned from fresh cream. Will it ever be time for breakfast and that large pancake?

Student Profile: - 1st Grade elementary school students - Students have been studying English for 2 years in literacy class. - This is the second class of Pancakes, Pancakes. Students read the story 10times as homework so they are familiar with the story.

Objectives: Students will be able to: i. ii. iii. iv. v. recognize story elements (character, setting, problems & solutions) and build story comprehension. retell Pancakes, Pancakes using props and speech bubbles. use Can you give me~? and We need to . recognize different kinds of kitchen supplies. write pancake recipe.

Materials: Warm Up story puzzle chart, Velcro board Main Lesson 1- character pops, speech bubbles, tapes Main Lesson 2 sentence strips, pocket chart ingredient and supplies shown in the story Pancakes and utensils for each student Wrap Up homework sheets ( Write a recipe & Book report)

Steps: Greetings (2mins.) Warm Up (8mins.) i. <Review the story elements> T reviews the story elements using story puzzle chart used last lesson with Ss. T spreads laminated puzzle pieces on the table and have Ss put the puzzle together on a Velcro board. While Ss doing the activity, T asks the story elements. ( characters, problems, solutions)

Main Lesson i. < Retelling the story through Role-play > (15mins.) T prepares speech bubbles with characters dialogue from the story. The patterns of dialogue are mainly Can you give me~ and We need to~. T holds up each bubble and asks Ss to match the bubbles with characters. T gives each Student a character pops and a speech bubble. T asks Ss to place the tip of the speech bubble in the character mouth with tapes so that it looks like the bubble is attached to the character. Have Ss place with their character pops in a line in the order they appear in the story. Ss retell the story.

<Lets make pancakes> (15mins.) T prepares sentence strips with pancake recipe from the story. Asks Ss to read together as T puts each sentence strips into the pocket chart.

T sets up all the ingredients and supplies before the class begins. T introduces each of them. Since there are not enough time and supplies, each student come to the table and follow only one step of the recipe. T stops following the steps right before heating the frying pan over the fire. That is because it is not allowed to cook with fire in the classroom. Instead, T tells Ss T will treat them pancakes and drinks right after the class.

Wrap up (5mins.) T asks Ss what his or her favorite part in the story was. T hands out homework sheets (Pancake recipe & Book report) and explains how to do it.

Homework Assignment i. Pancake Recipe : Ss write a recipe for pancake with ingredients and instructions. ii. Book Report : Ss complete the book report recording sheet. Share the report with other Ss next time. Assessment Students story comprehension will be checked carefully during the class. Teacher monitors and helps to encourage Ss to get involved.
