August 15, 2012 Jamie Kallner, Majority Counsel Albany County Legislature 112 State St., Room 700 Albany, NY 12207 Jamie, My office has made the vacancy list available to the Chairman's office. I am surprised that you are unaware of this. In any event, the proper protocol with respect to distribution of the list after it is delivered to them is the prerogative of the Chairman. I know that Mr. Morse is and has been an effective leader and will make all the information available to members who request it. The spirit of cooperation extended by my office does not appear to be mutual. More than four weeks ago, former Deputy County Executive Mike Perrin requested an opportunity for me to address the Democratic Caucus and go over the tentative budget for 2013. The Majority said no. Our budget department worked very hard to put together the 2013 budget for July to give the legislators more than enough opportunity to address our deficit, not only for this year but for next year. We need to work in an atmosphere of harmony and respect to solve the grave problems that unfunded mandates and the deficit at the nursing home have caused. To use a phony issue like the vacancy list to create division at this defining moment is unwise, ill-advised, and inappropriate. The 2012 budget that your office created had several unrealistic assumptions that we need to address. I know that campaign season is diverting time from this matter. I hope you can find the time to sit down with me and my staff and talk about these urgent issues facing our county taxpayers.

In unity,

Daniel P. McCoy
