    Start with a whole number. If it is even, divide it by 2. If it is odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1. Repeat the process over and over. The conjecture* is that no matter what number you start with, you will always eventually reach 1. A conjecture is just a guess. No one has been able to decide if this guess (called the Collatz Conjecture) is right or wrong. In fact, you could win $500 if you prove it right or wrong for all numbers.
