Dear friends, Im writing to let you know about two important initiatives that are simultaneously underway to build permanent tributes to our friend Senator Allan Spear and to invite you to help make them a reality. As you may be aware, the DFL has completely renovated and transformed its headquarters in St. Paul. They are now ready to install a Victory Plaza, a beautiful outdoor gathering area that will celebrate the Partys mission and history and honor the Partys heroes. We have reserved one of the larger 12 x 18 inch bricks in the plaza in Allans memory. The total cost is $2,000. We already have pledges of $1,500. Any amount you are able to add to get us to the full $2,000 would be greatly appreciated. If youd like to contribute, please contact me at my email address, or by phone at 612-327-3870, or drop a check payable to Minnesota DFL in the mail to me at 2910 James Ave S, Apt C, Minneapolis, MN 55408. Second, the LGBT group Join the Impact-Twin Cities (JTI) has been working for over a year to establish an Allan Spear LGBT Equality Memorial on the colonnade in Mueller Park, in the Wedge neighborhood, just one block from Allan and his partner Junjiro Tsujis home. This spring, they succeeded in obtaining Minneapolis Park Board approval for the project. Phase I will be installation of a commemorative plaque, and a second phase will provide for landscaping and stewardship. You can read more about this wonderful tribute in the Southwest Journal article at http://bit.ly/Qpe66n. It is important for all of us, and particularly for gay kids today and in the future, to have a sense of connectedness with those who have gone before us. We can help build that legacy in the Twin Cities through this memorial that will allow Allan Spears name and contributions to live on.

The projected cost for Phase I of the project, for the plaque, stone and installation, is about $4,000. Minneapolis Parks community foundation, People for Parks, has agreed to serve as the fiscal agent, so all donations are tax-deductible. We are having a house party and fundraiser to celebrate Allans life and raise funds for the Allan Spear LGBT Equality Memorial: Sunday, August 26 , 2012 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the home of Junjiro Tsuji 2429 Colfax Avenue South, Minneapolis Light hors-doeuvres will be served Suggested contribution $25 (more if you can) I hope you will be able to join me in celebrating and commemorating Allan Spear, an amazing hero we were fortunate to know, work alongside and call our friend. If you are unable to attend the fundraiser , but still would like to contribute to the Allan Spear LGBT Equality Memorial, you can send a check, made out to People for Parks Allan Spear Memorial, or made out to People for Parks with Allan Spear Memorial entered on the checks for line, to Kent Searle, at 2628 Colfax Avenue South, Minneapolis, 55408. Thank you. Very truly yours,

Scott Dibble
