CONFUCIANISM
Why we do this?
We can interpret this with a political
aspect. We call this CONFUCIANISM.
In Korea past, we believe that family`s
repesentative person live well, it can be
affected to their descenant.
So we respect our ancestor even after
they died.
FUNERALS
Korean funerals generally last three
days. When a person dies, first the
body is set in a straight position and
covered in a white sheet. Then it is
put behind a partition.
In front of the partition, a small table
is set up with a photo of the
deceased and incenses. Then the
persons death is announced.
Official notice of the funeral is sent
out, and a sign is hung on the front
door of the house.
PERCEPTION/BELIEFS
Koreans who observe ancestor
worship believe that death is not a
final termination but a
transformation.
In Korean folk belief, death means
a departure from this world to the
"otherworld." Death is thought to be
a rite of passage, and the dead
are generally considered to be
similar to the living. Elaborate
ancestor-worship rites, offering
various foods as to a living person,
spring out of these beliefs.
