Salinger is a Brooklyn-based freelance journalist currently attending the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. New to the New York area, he spent the past four years in Washington, DC working in politics and writing in his spare time. He self-published two novels that reflected his experience working in a Democratic National Committee fundraising office during the election of 2008 and his time working for his home-state senator, Claire McCaskill, during the passage of Obamacare. Despite the Capitol Hill thrills of attending sumptuous free receptions and breathing the same air as powerful individuals, Salinger decided to resign his post for the chance to pursue a career in journalism in New York City. He hopes to translate the traits that made him successful in the political worldcuriosity and honestyto a profession which holds those characteristics in higher esteem. Prior to his time in Washington, Salinger attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a bachelors degree in the Humanities in 2008. Salingers program, a self-styled Alternative Journalism track, included training in traditional journalistic forms, American history, and social sciences. He participated in student media as a Daily Texan columnist, a sports show producer at KVR-TV, and a staff writer for the student humor publication. Salinger also served as an intern at The Texas Observer, a progressive bi-weekly newsmagazine, during the spring of 2008. Before college, the Kansas City native interned with WHB 810 for radio coverage of Kansas City Royals baseball in the summer of 2004. Salinger completed his first book, a collection of essays about attending most games during the woeful 2001 season, when he was 16. Salinger does not live with any pets, as it is difficult enough to find housing in this city.
