Key facts (Notes)

Triangle Inequality –

How many distinct triangles can you construct if the triangle inequality fails?

How many distinct triangles can you construct if you are given the following
pieces of information?
AAA: SAS:
AAS: SSA:
ASA: SSS:

Practice. On a sheet of graph paper, for each trio of side lengths and angle
measurements,
A) Decide if and how many triangles can be constructed.
B) Give a reason for why you chose your answer for part A.
C) Draw/construct all the triangles, up to a maximum of three.

1. sides 3, 6, 8

2. sides 3, 4, 8

3. sides 7 and 6 with an angle of 50° in between

4. sides 5 and 8 with an angle of 30° not between them

5. angles of 10°, 40°, and 70°

6. angles of 30°, 60°, and 90°

7. angles of 80° and 45° with a side of 10 between them

8. angles of 75° and 60° with a side of 6 not between them

9. sides 10, 4, and 6

10. create your own set of three given criteria that will construct a triangle
definitively (i.e. only one triangle), and do it!
