Note: Special Ventura Stream Team pre-dawn sampling times! Ventura Stream Team - September 8th - This month Ventura Stream Team volunteers will collect samples in two shifts as part of the season's final pre-dawn sampling event. The first shift will meet before dawn at 4:30 AM. The second shift will meet at 12:30 PM. Ocean Friendly Gardens Hands-On Workshop September 22nd

Polluted runoff is the biggest source of pollution to California's waterways. As water runs over lawns, driveways, sidewalks and roads, it picks up all the pollution in its path and carries it straight to storm drains that discharge the runoff untreated to our creeks and ocean. Fortunately, there are many ways that individual households can help to reduce runoff pollution, and the Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Gardens Program, in partnership with the City of Santa Barbara's Creeks Division, Parks Division, and Water Resources Division, will be working on a demonstration site in Santa Barbara to showcase how it can be done.

Soon to be a new Ocean Friendly Garden site!

The Ocean Friendly Gardens Hands-On Workshop will take place on Saturday, September 22nd from 10am-2pm at Spencer Adams Park (1216 De La Vina Street). Workshop participants will shape the site for rainwater capture, direct roof runoff into the garden, and rebuild soil health through sheet mulching layering compost, compost tea, paper and mulch to create a sponge in the garden. There will be a follow-up workday on Saturday, November 10th to install plants, irrigation and top-dressing of mulch. Click here to RSVP.
