The masthead is in Bold, and is quite masculine and square.

It is filled in with Red but has a white outline and Black background. Red is the colour of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. White connotes purity and new beginnings, black connotes elegance and class. I also think these three colours juxtapose with each other quite well, and they all stand out very well, and that could also be message they are giving out, of individuality and standing out. There is hardly any space in between each letter, so I think this could mean that the magazine is jam-packed.

There are small images on the sides of the magazine to give an insight to the readers and give them a brief idea what the magazine is about. One of the images is obscuring the masthead, this isnt a big issue as a NME is a very powerful magazine company, and readers will immediately recognize the three letters.

The banner at the top is in yellow and is quite bold and contrasting to the rest of the magazine, this could be to show a high level of importance.

The barcode is convention that is always used in magazines.

The buzz words are in different fonts and sizes to attract the attention of the readers. Its very eye-catching as it in white which juxtaposes against the dark background. FOO FIGHTERS is written in caps as it is the main story and it is of high importance as it takes up most the space. There is an obvious colour scheme here, Red, white, yellow and black. They all stand out and give the franchise a brand identity.

The model is quite rough looking and is wearing an angry expression on his face. This could give off the sense of music which is in the magazine Hard rock and Heavy metal.
