Katherine Bridges is the heroine of the novel Good-bye, Mr. Chips . She was a young beautiful lady with blue eyes and soft hair. She was 25 years old when she married to Mr. Chips and died only two years later, in 1898. Katherine had modern ideas on life. She was a governess out of job. She was also a trained nurse. Her ideas were quite revolutionary and modern. She was a zealous supporter of the right of vote for women. She was a reactionary in politics. She was a modern woman of the later-Victoria-Age. She was a modern woman judged from any angle. Thus she was an independent and hard working lady. She desired that woman should be equal with man in society. She was in favor of higher education for them. She hated any class distinction. She exercised a healthy influence upon him. She proves to be a very loving companion for Chips. She helped him and served him in solving his problems. Her ideas, talks and suggestions made her a great wife. But unfortunately she died with her child just two years after her marriage. 10. He remained as simple as possible He did not change his gown even if it got much tattered. Chips looked quite, serious and mature. He could have better discipline in the classes. His teaching improved a lot and the students respected him all the more. Chips authority and confidence grew as him experience increased. He could say anything with out any hesitation even in important school functions. Mr. Chips was sure of the correctness of his views and actions. He was not ready to change his old ways of teaching. When the new headmaster Ralston, asked him to change his methods of teaching and to improve his dressing, he refused to do so. Thus chips
became a peculiar kind of old school master.
