Bible or Party?

This week will see Americans take to the polls as the long-awaited Presidential race will be decided. News organizations have been long predicting and preparing polls, trying to anticipate who the winner will be. The race indeed appears to be close, and it is absolutely imperative that every American eligible to vote cast his vote. As a Christian citizen, do your part and cast a vote this week as voter turnout will certainly be a key in determining the outcome. The reasons for choosing candidates are indeed mindboggling. Some have been a member of a certain political party only because that is what their great, great, great grandpa was and they will only vote that party. Others cast a vote without doing any research as to the candidates stand on various issues. I know of some who have cast a vote because they liked the sounds of the candidates name! Other reasons are certainly more valid as voters research various stands. Some of the issues are able to be classified as social issues on which the Bible makes no definite point (e.g., the tax system, a Presidents stand on nuclear warfare). These issues are largely based on individual preference. Yet for the Bible-believing individual, certain Biblical issues must be examined. For example, is abortion wrong in Gods eyes? I believe the obvious answer is yes, but many Christians who claim to be Bible believers will vote for those in favor or abortion. How can that possibly be justified? Furthermore, the Bible is clear that those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed (Gen. 12:3). Would we as believers not be wise to examine the candidates stand on Israel and vote accordingly? These are just two examples. Sadly, many believers will say they accept the Bible as their authority but when it comes to their political party, their vote says differently. Are you more loyal to the Bible or to a political party? Make the elections this week a matter of prayer and do your part. Pastor Q
