Canyon Views
An A+ School Driven by Childrens Needs

Principals Message:
Dear Canyon View Families,

October was a very exciting month for us at Canyon View and now its on to the second trimester! We want to thank everyone for attending our annual Canyon Boo celebration and making this special event such an enjoyable experience for our children. The Halloween Parade on the 31st was another fun event for our students, and it was rewarding to see all of the teachers and parents having just as much fun as our children! Thank you for everyone who volunteered your time! Our Science Fair Night this past Wednesday had a record turnout, and Im certain that our young scientists will make this years Science Fair the best one yet. The lessons learned when creating a science fair project extend well beyond the classroom, and sometimes an opportunity like this is all that it takes to ignite a childs passion that will last a lifetime. Lately, there seems to be some safety concerns out on Sabino Canyon Road during dismissal time. I cannot express enough how important it is for drivers to follow all trafc laws when traveling north and southbound on Sabino Canyon Road. Dismissal time can be congested at times, but please remember that students, cars and buses are all exiting the premises at the same time and safety has to be our top priority. Thank you for helping to keep our students and families safe!

Esperero Canyon Middle Schools two school counselors will be presenting a 3week class for parents to learn and discuss how parents can best help their children at school. These classes will be held at Esperero Canyon every Wednesday from November 28 - December 12 from 3-4:30 p.m. The program, Parents on Board, is designed for parents who want their children to succeed in school, but want more direction on how they can work hand-in-hand with the school. The program uses entertaining videos along with group discussion to provide parents with tools to help their children get the best education possible. Some of the topics covered include: Children's learning styles Promoting cooperative behavior Encouraging and motivating children How parents can help with homework without doing it themselves Language and reading skills Writing, spelling, math and science

If you would like to participate in this class, please call Caryl Altman at 209-8105 to reserve your space. The group will be limited to approximately 15 participants. Finally, report cards will be sent home on Friday, November 16. Teachers spend countless hours on these reports ensuring that their comments give parents de tailed information regarding your childs progress. If you have any questions regarding your childs report card please do not hesitate to contact us, particularly families new to Canyon View who are still becoming familiar with our four-point rubric system. We are more than happy to help walk you through the rst report! Have a wonderful weekend and Thanksgiving holiday! Sincerely, Rob Henikman Principal

Arizona Tax Credit in the Foothills The Catalina Foothills School District is a wonderful school community! It is impressive to see a community with such a commitment to educational excellence and support of the schools here in the Foothills. CFSD would not be the district it is today without the community that surrounds and supports it! The success of our schools' extracurricular programs is tied to the generous contributions of community members who divert some of their state tax funds to the CFSD programs of their choice! How does it Work? Any Arizona taxpayer has the opportunity to give to Catalina Foothills School District instead of paying it in taxes. The donation must be earmarked for support of one of our many qualifying fee-based, extracurricular activities. We'll send the donor a receipt for their records. Then, when the taxpayer fills out their 2012 Arizona state taxes, they can subtract the amount of the donation, up to $400 (joint filers) and $200 (individuals), from what is owed in state taxes. This is not just a tax deductionit is a tax credit that reduces the amount of taxes owed to the state, dollar-for-dollar. For more information about how this credit will work for your individual tax situation, contact your tax advisor. How are these Dollars Spent? Tax Credit dollars are spent to support fee-based, extra-curricular offerings. However, regular communication between Mr. Henikman and Community Schools, leads to a beneficial partnerships that also helps support the needs at Canyon View, as dollars are spent to serve a joint purpose. What is the Tax Credit Goal at Canyon View? We are aiming for $30,000that is only 150 individuals at $200 each! Where Can I Donate? You can donate online (http://www.cfsd16.org/public/_community/donate.aspx) with your credit card or fill out the 2012 Tax Credit Form, which can be mailed to Murphey Administration Center, 2101 E River Rd., Tucson, AZ, 85718 or dropped off in person at any CFSD school, by December 31, 2012. Please make checks payable to Catalina Foothills School District (CFSD) and note the program to which you'd like to contribute on the check. What have we purchased at Canyon View with tax credit dollars? Here are some of the joint projects that Community Schools and past Canyon View principals have completed/purchased within the last 2 years, as well as projects underway or yet to come with Mr. Henikman: Lego Robotics team registrations and equipment used by CV students and Community Schools

Imagine Learning software purchase used by CV teachers, students, and Community Schools Soccer Goals used by CV Physical Education and Community Schools Scooters used by CV Physical Education and Community Schools 30 sets of headphones used by CV students and Community Schools Coyote Code program and school assembly used by CV staff, students and Community Schools Coming SoonCanyon View Robotics equipment to be used by CV students, staff, and Community Schools

HELP CFSD STUDENTS AND REDUCE YOUR STATE TAX BILL Use your 2012 Arizona school tax credit to help a child get more out of school.
Arizona law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows taxpayers to receive a tax credit of up to $200 (single filer) or $400 (joint filers) if they contribute to extracurricular fee-based programs in public schools. A tax credit is a full refund of what you owe in state taxes, dollar-for-dollar.

Heres how it works:

Just send a donation to the Catalina Foothills School District, earmarked for support of one of our many qualifying feebased extracurricular activities. (See below.) We will send you a receipt for your records. Then, when you fill out your 2012 Arizona state taxes, you can subtract your donation up to $400 from what you owe in taxes.
