NHRC Discrimination with the Hindu and Muslim survivors The National Human Rights Commission is an autonomous statutory

y body which has the powers to inquire and investigate into complaints of human rights violations. In spite of not executing the duties of the court, it is endowed with powers to direct government and private institutions to probe into complaints and submit reports. The mission of the National human rights commission is to shed light on the concealed human right violations and enable interventions for the realization of justice and equity. In spite of such an aim, it is distressing when one goes through records and notices disparity between the commissions goals and action due to the underlying prejudice and discriminatory behavior towards different religious groups. In this case study presented by Peoples Vigilance Committee for Human Rights, a comparative study of cases puts in display how the National Human Rights Commission has taken different actions for the same kind of cases. We have found that the commission sends Hindu cases directly for inquiry but same Muslim cases are transferred to the State Human Rights Commission, given the justification that they are related to the state. Repetition of such a behavior creates a pattern and leaves one perplexed, wondering of the possible reasons. It reflects biasness in its steps to inquire into complaints of human rights violations. The Muslim cases transferred to the State Human Rights Commission were not investigated and have been left dormant. Every individual is entitled to the realization of human rights irrespective of their nationality, gender, caste, religion, class or race. Everyone has equal social, economic and political rights which are correlated and consolidate each other. This principle, the foundation, on which the NHRC is entitled to function, is at stake. In the following are the complaints that were submitted to NHRC. The comparative analysis of the cases shows how differing subsequent actions have been taken for same nature of cases.
