    Security features of the proposed new license product for new motorists appear to be a substantial improvement over the current card. We in the law enforcement community were excited when the current license card with its several security features was rolled out a number of years ago. Changing technology and human ingenuity are tending to make the current security features less secure. The new card incorporates the latest in technology and addresses many of the concerns about the current card voiced by our officers who deal with them in the field every day.

Weinthelawenforcementcommunitywereexcitedwhenthecurrentlicense cardwithitsseveralsecurityfeatureswasrolledoutanumberofyears ago.However,changingtechnologyandhumaningenuityaretendingtomake thecurrentsecurityfeatureslesssecure.Thenewcardincorporatesthelatestin technologyandaddressesmanyoftheconcernsaboutthecurrentcardvoicedby ourofficerswhodealwiththeminthefieldeveryday.Theadditional"clear window"photosviewablefrombothsideandtheimbedded"signature"inthe scannablebarcodearesignificantimprovementstothelicensecard. Whilewewereatfirstconcernedaboutthe"blackandwhiteonly"photos, furtherresearchhasshownusthatthelaseretchedblackandwhitephotoswill haveahigherresolutionoftrueidentifyingfeatureswithoutthedistractionof easilymodifiedfeaturessuchashaircolor.Thatfact,plusthefactthatyour departmentassuresusthatcolorphotoswillstillbemadeavailabletoofficersin thefieldviaMobileDataTerminalsorotherwise,haveallayedourinitial concernsaboutblackandwhitephotos.
