I can make an inference When I read a text. I use clues and evidence To make a smart guess. With a big clue here, And a little clue there. While thinking about a clue I use my schema too!

This is a job for the Inference Investigators

Dear Inference Investigators, Remember to use your best investigative skills by INFERRING what Jane and Aunt Pat may have done on their fall break day based on the evidence you find. Make sure you discuss your answers with your group members! All ideas are welcome. Thanks for your help! Sincerely, Janes Mom

Just as the weatherman predicted Jane woke up on a fall morning to a chill in the air. Jane was excited about the many things she would do with Aunt Pat. Her mom was already at work and Jane was spending the day with Aunt Pat. Janes mom returned home from work around 4pm in the afternoon. She expected to find Jane and Aunt Pat in the kitchen eating a snack, but they were nowhere to be found! Concerned, Janes mom began to search the house for clues that might help her figure out where they were and what they had been doing all day.

And, thats where you come in Inference Investigators! Janes mom found many items around the house that will help her piece together how Jane and her aunt spent the day and where they were when she returned home from work, but she needs your help! Each group of Inference Investigators will be given a Case File filled with evidence. As a group, sort through the evidence for clues to figure out what they did and where they might be. Use your fall day evidence chart to record what you found and what you think they might have done. When youre finished, well join together as a group to combine your evidence to put together a timeline of their day and to figure out where they were when mom returned from work.
Good luck! Mrs. Nelson
