PROGRAM NOTES
In Grade One students are working on expressing their feelings for music as well as finding creative ways to make their music come alive. We have been collaborating with the Grade One team on the Creative Expressions unit of inquiry. In addition to expressing themselves through movement to orchestral pieces from Camille Saint Saens Carnival of Animals, each class has created their own special animal piece. Different classes have chosen to create pieces that include stories, instrumentation, movement, research and cultural studies. This year our students will also have the added bonus of working with some of the middle school strings and band students in the coming weeks. The middle schoolers have been learning to play certain pieces from Carnival of Animals and they will conduct a collborative inquiry project together with the Grade One kids in follow-up to todays concert. We believe in bringing our curriculum to life in dynamic and varied ways. Throughout the school year your children have a wide range of opportunities to create, perform and reflect upon their learning, and this concert provides one such example. We truly hope you enjoy the show! The music teachers and Grade 1 kids sure enjoyed preparing it!!
