November ANC Monthly Meeting

Dorothy Height Library (Benning Road Public Library) November 1, 2011 @ 6:30pm Meeting start time: 6:35pm Commissioners in attendance: Sheila Carson-Carr, Latese Gilbert, Shahidah Hamlett, Martha Kent, Eboni-Rose Thompson, Villareal Johnson Reading of September and October minutes by Comm. Ebony Rose Thompson Eboni-Rose motioned to have minutes from September and October approved. Comm. Kent 2nd everyone in favor, motion passed. Treasurers report read by Comm. Kent Savings 41,975.90 Checking 20,400.90 Comm. Kent motioned to accept the treasurers report. Comm. Hamlett 2nd, everyone in favor, motion passed. Citizens concerns: Mr. Hemby asked about auditor information. Auditors did not attend the October meeting as requested. Sheila spoke on the disrespectfulness of the auditors stating that they would not attend the meeting. Motion to write a letter to the Mayor asking the auditors to meet with us for the December meeting. Nicole 2nd Motion passed Constituent wanted to know what the commissioners spent money on. It was explained to the constituents that money was spent on past dues bills and other items such as: Gregory Hemby services 840.00 LaKeisha Harrington/staff person 4300.00 Back rent from the previous commission 700.00 PO Box 96.00 Cell Phones for commissioners who needed them for constituent services New and improved 7A website 2500.00 Business cards, Letterhead and envelopes 902.00 Commissioners need to get meeting information to constituents who dont have email. The JC Knoll Association has an Academic Bowl. They would like a letter of support to send to 16 other schools from the commissioners. Comm. Kent motioned to have the letter written. Comm. Eboni-Rose 2nd, everyone was in favor, motion passed. Nicole Stewart with Wards 7 & 8 Prevention Center, requested to be on Decembers agenda.

Constituent Joseph Purgest wanted to know how he could get information on the meetings. He was told that we are on the Yahoo ListServ for 7a. Ron Moton suggested that the commissioners contact Sasha Bruce and or some local high schools to do community services to pass out fliers notifying our constituents of monthly meetings. Lionel Humphey from Yvette Alexanders office made and announcement the turkeys and gift cards will given out for the holidays. Contact number 202-724-8068 Comm. Carson-Carr motioned to bring tape recorder to monthly meetings again and that the tapes should be kept for one year. Motion passed. Constituents request: Ward 7 Education Council is offering a Saturday Academy. They would like to know how could receive some funding from the commission. Margaret Sexton would like a written copy of the duties and responsibilities of the commissioners. Thompson-Murphy would like for the commission to provide t-shirts, school supplies, field trips, fund buses and activities, have a community awareness day and employ 7a constituents. Exum wants to execute a beautification project in every SMD. Hemby is in support of the beautification project. Would like to be on the December agenda to launch a date in March. Jasmine Preston would like the commissioners to supply a SOP Nicole Stewart suggested that fliers are passed out for constituents awareness Tina Thompson request to have the Ward 7 Education Saturday Academy on the agenda. She would like to have a Sr. Focus Day Outreach and coat distribution. Also request that her name is taken off the ANC DC government website and have the meeting information changed. New Tasks: Grant process in writing for the December meeting. Motioned and passed. Commissioners will create a grants committee to allocate the money for December meeting and a SOP. Motion to approve 3rd and 4th quarter reports less the budget. 2 nos, 1 abstention, and 3 yess. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 8:50pm
