Mayor and Council
Township of Langley
Langley, BC JA
Ladies and Gentlemen;
LEGISLATIVE SERVICES
I am writing to you on behalf of the directors of the BC Farm Machinery and
Agricultural Museum Association located in Fort Langley.

The museum association and Langley Township council have had a positive
working relationship for many years. We are most grateful for the support
council has given us. We were very disappointed to learn we would not have a
council liason this year. So we will just connect with all of council. For their
information I have attached a copy of our most recent newsletter for each
member of council.

As you are probably aware the “farm museum” will be operating at this
,’d
location for the 43 year in 2009. The museum is owned, operated, and
-
managed entirely by volunteers no paid staff and all collection, -

restoration and exhibition of artifacts is also done entirely by volunteers.

We receive no funding for operating expenses. We are a registered charity.
In the event the association dissolves our constitution states that the
Township receives our assets.

For the past two years we have identified and completed renovation projects
around the museum. After 40 years of use it was time for some serious
renewal in some areas. To date we have completed around $120,000 worth
of work. This money was raised through grant applications, corporate
donations, or fundraising. We have one major and expensive project left - -

to do this spring. We need to repair and repaint the ceiling in building #1.
This requires contracting a renovation company to do this skilled work at a
cost of approximately $40,000 we have estimates. The building is large,
the ceiling is high, and it has challenging contours. This work must be
professionally done.

We have $21,000 raised in the bank for this project we have applied
for a 2009 Township Capital Improvement grant of $7500 (maximum we are
able to apply for) and we are expecting some corporate donations towards
this cost.

We are still short another $10,000 to complete this project. Could/would

council grant us this extra money out of one of their funds PLEASE?

We would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We would be thrilled to arrange a private tour for council members so you
may see what you would be funding and what you may eventually own.

Thank You for considering our request.

Sincerely;

(Mrs.) Grace Muller, president
