eaving a shavel is a very satisfying experience. A shawl can be almost any width—almost any loom
is therefore wide enough. Because shawls can be wide, they provide the special joy of watching a lot
of fabric dance before your eyes as it grows, pick by pick. Almost any weave structure and any yarn
can be used for a shawl, so you can experiment with yarn substitutions and color wraps for variations as-well as
explore weave structures beyond the specific instructions given here, Shawls are simple rectangles, so no sewing
isrequired, Shawls love fringe, thereby inviting yau to twist, knot, and braid. Best of all is that from the moment you
remove a shaw from the loom, you have a serious piece of cloth to wrap around you for warmth and beauty.
The shawls in this collection include a wide range of weave structures, from M's and O's to our earliest known
‘version of deflected doubleweave to turned Atwater-Bronson lace (warp floats and weft floats. on the same surface!)
—in beautiful silks, wools, and wool/silks—on both four and eight shafts. Weaving instructions are full of design
and color ideas, inviting you te study your stash, make colar wraps to plan your own colors, and more.
