After making a couple of desks its time to take it to another level this time i came up with some ideas

to lift the desk with lifting columns.I also decided to lift the sreens with a lift column. The desk can be used by small and big people you can even stand up and work at the desk. A render of the design.

The lifting columns for lifting the desk.

The lifting column for the screens.

The main material im gonna use to build the desk is 3mm thick aluminium. Time to make the body. The 3 pieces i need cut with the lasercutter.

Time for some bending.

Then i spotwelded the pieces.

Then i start working on the covers for the columns. They are also made out of 3mm thick aluminium.

This is how they look.

Then i cut 2 pieces of aluminium for the sides and spotwelded them. The i finisht welding the body and did some sanding.

The psu, cables and the controlbox for the cloumns will be at the back of the desk cover.I'm making a frame for this and then seal it of with a cover. This is how it looks when its finisht.

First i saw the pieces i need for the frame.

Then i spotwelded the pieces together en then finisht welding them.

This is how im gonna mount the frame on to the desk.

The next thing to do is making the mounting holes for both the column covers as for the frame. M5 rivet nuts.

The pneumatic tool.

Finisht the frame.

After that i made the mounting plate for the frame out of 3mm aluminium and bend it.

Then i drilled and countersunk the holes and mounted the plate on to the frame.

After that i drilled and countersunk the holes inside the desk body and mounted the frame on the desk body.

Time to make a bracket for the lifting column for the screens.

Thats finisht so on with the next thing. The I/O panel.

First i tapped the holes with M4 thread.

Then i did the measurements for the hole where the I/O panel in gonna be mounted.

Cutting out the hole.

Drilled and countersunk the mounting holes.

Mounted the I/O panel inside the desk body.

Test fitting with an old mobo.

It fits like a glove so on to the next job. Time to make the bracket for the column to mount my screens.First i collected all the materials i needed and cutt, drilled and welded them.

All parts are finisht.

Now its time to putt them together and mount the bracket onto the column.

Now thats finisht i can mount the panels and this is how it looks.

I also made a short movie of the panels in action.I was suprised how smooth they move. The column makes no noise and it lifts the panels roch solid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0XynjDsLlU&feature=g-upl&context=G29c5dd2AUAAAAAAAAAA Its time to make the foot for the desk.Im gonna use a frame with plastic feet and 2 mount plates for mounting the columns. On top of the frame there will be a cover. First i cutt the pieces im using for the frame.

Then i drilled the holes for the M8 rivet nuts and put them in.

These are the plastic feet im gonna use.

Then i drilled the holes in the mounting plates for the columns. The holes are 12,5mm and thats the hole i need for a M10 stainless steel welding nut.

Welded the nuts.

All parts are finisht so now its time to put all the pieces together.

Then i mounted the plastic feet and the frame is finisht.

On to the next job. First i drilled the holes for the columns into the desk body and the holes for the column covers.

Now its time to put it all together.First i mounted the feet for the desk foot.

Then it was time to mount the columns.

After that i mounted the body on to the columns.

Then i mounted the frame for the panels etc to the desk body.

Time to put the wires in place.

Time for testing and here is a small movie of the test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH9GDNVrnQ0&context=C4b84163ADvjVQa1PpcFNzeGYfOzfyguZ1ppuglTZqiyO8loyjo1k= Time to make the mobo tray en the cover for the 4 casefans. The pieces cut on the lasercutter.

Then i bend the 2 pieces.

Then it was time to make the standoffs for the mobo. For this i used 8mm stainless steel with M4 thread.

After that i drilled the holes for the mobo in the mobo tray and mounted the standoffs on the mobo tray and placed it inside the desk.

Time to mount the mobo on the tray.

Time to mount the fancover and this is how it looks at this point.

Time to make the back cover. First i cut a piece of the right measurements and bend it.

I want the cover to go with the design so i cut the pieces for the corners.

Then i weld the pieces together and did some finishing.

Then i made the side pieces for the cover with the holes in them for the 80mm casefans.I was so busy making them that i already finisht them and then i realised that i forgot to make some pictures. At that point i spotwelded all the pieces together. Spotwelded the side pieces on the cover and finisht welding them and some sanding ofcourse.

Time to fit the cover and this is how it looks.

The cover is stil not ready but im satisfied how it looks so far. Next job is to make the cover for the desk feet. First i cut the cover.

Then i bend the cover.

Because it was not possible to bend the whole cover i had to let to small pieces open. For this i cut 2 little pieces of metal and spotwelded them.

Then i welded the cover and id some sanding.

The cover is finisht and this is how the cover looks.

Then it was time to work on the oak top for the desk. The top.

To give the top the same design as the desk ik had to saw the corners.

Then i sanded the corners.

This is how the top looks on the desk.

The top is not finisht yett so more in the next update. First i draw the hole.

Then i cut it out whit a jigsaw and sanded the hole.

Time to fit the top.

Fits like a glove so time to sand and degrease the top.

The top im gonna paint with bootslak its paint for boats and its abrasion resistant .

Put on the first layer.I can repaint it after 24 hours

I want to put on 4 layers a side so its gonna take some time.

Because the wood gives the desk a more classic look i decide to also use some wood in the inside.I ordered some more wood and i hope it arrives soon. Time to make the custom reservoirs. First i cut 4 pieces off stainless steel pipe and drilled some holes in them.

Then i made 8 disks of stainless steel.Four of them with G1/4 thread and four without holes.

Then i was time for some welding and sanding.

These four pieces are done so on the the next pieces.Again some drilling, welding and sanding.

Time to put the pieces together.

Time to sand the oak top again and give it another layer of bootslak.

Then it was time to continue with the reservoirs. The next pieces im gonna make from oak again.

First i made 18 little disks to use as spacers.

18 stainless steel plates with 3 holes in them.

Then i made 2 stainless steel axes with M8 thread.

Welding the axes on 2 plates and sand them.

All parts are done so time to mount them together.

This is how the reservoirs look.

The reservoirs are not finisht yet.I have to paint the spacers with bootslak and make some feet for the reservoirs. More to come. Time to move on. I have received the oak i have orderd so i can continue with the inside of the desk.

But first i have to finish the reservoirs.I painted the spacers with bootslak.

Now its time to make the feet for the reservoirs. For this i cut 2 pieces of stainless steel.

Then i took some stainless steel and made 6 axles.

The idea was to use only 1 axle per feet but i decided to use 3 axles so i had to drill a few more holes. Then i welded 2 axles on the feet.

Then i welded the 2 other axles on the reservoirs..

All parts together.

The reservoirs will be mounted on the mobotray with the 3 holes on the picture below.

The end result.

On to the next job. I have bought a aquaero 5 that im gonna use inside the desk.

First i made an housing for the aquaero from stainless steel.

I totaly forgot to make a picture from the sanding. Then i made the hole for the housing in de backpanel of the desk.

Finally i could start to work with the oak i received earlier.Time to make an oak backpanel.

Now thats finisht its time to mount the I/O plate back in the desk.

Then i mounted the backpanel en de housing for the aquaero.

Time to make some more wood details and again i forgot to make pictures im getting old i guess.

This is how it looks at this point.I have to say the housing for the aquaero looks kinda big so i think im gonna make a new one.

Time to make the new housing for the aquaero.Again i used 2mm stainless steel. The housing is made out of 6 parts. First i spotwelded, welded and finisht the housing

Then i made 2 plates for mounting the housing.

Welded the plates.

The old housing.

The new housing.

In my opinion the housing looks mucg better now and im satisfied with the endresult. Because Aqua Computer has no backplates for my blocks i made a few backplates myself. The backplates are made of 2mm stainless steel.

Because the blocks have a brused stainless steel plate i want to brush the backplates also. I used some sanding paper and some scotch brite for this.

The result.

Because brushed stainless steel easily stains i painted it with varnish.

Ready to paint.

The end result.

Time to mod again.First i re made the rad covers.

Then i took a piece of oak and cut it in pieces.

From the pieces i made triangles.

Now thats finisht its time to fit the rad covers.

Time to put the triangles in place.I have 2 options to mount them on the rad covers. Option 1.

Option 2.

I like both options so maby i can make a chioce with the top on.

I go for option 1. On to the next job. Because of some design change i have to remake the cover for the four fans in the front.I could make a new one but i choose to customize the old one.

First i cutt the cover to the right lenght.

Then i cutt a piece of 2mm aluminium.

Spotwelded the piece on the cover.

Because the cover is 800 mm long its not wise to weld it in 1 time because you end up with a banana. So i welded the cover with small steps.

Some sanding and the cover is done.

Test fitt.

To get acces to the aquaero i had to cutt out a piece from the backplate.

Thats finisht to.A few days back i have received my fittings and im not using tube but im gonna use stainless steel 10mm pipe. The fittings.

The pipe.

I also did a leak test and its all good.

On to the next job. To get acces to de back of the desk i need to remove the top cover and then the backcover so i made some changes. First i measure the piece that has to go.

The some cutting and finishing.

Test fitting and now i only have to remove the top to get acces to the back section.

Then it was time to make the connections i need for the keyboard, mouse and psu.I had some things laying around and they were perfect for this project.

Drilled some holes and did some sanding and used M3 thread for mounting.

Then i cutt 2 pieces of aluminium and drilled some holes and tapped M3 thread in them.

Time to fitt.

I still need a few more connections but i first have to place a order to get them. I bought black cable and black connectors and im already making custom cables.Im not going to use sleeve and leave the cables the way they look now.

More to come. The last couple of weeks i was drilling holes and sanding a lot of parts. So not much material to do an update but still it was a lot of work Here is one of the things i did.

Everything is mounted now and the only thing i need to mount is the top.

Last saturday i made the psu cover. First i bend the piece then weld it en at last some finishing.

Then i drilled the holes in the frame and tapped them with m4 thread.

The psu cover mounted on the frame and the psu mounted on the cover.

Some jigsaw action.

Test fit.

Then i draw a grill and cut it with the lasercutter.

Drilled the mounting holes in the cover and tapped them with m3 thread and after that i mounted the grill. This is how it looks at this point.

I need some other controls. The controls for the columns are mounted underneath the desk and the chance you would damage it was big so i contect Linak and ask them for other controls. The new controls.

First i drilled the holes.

Then i cut a piece of 3mm alu and drilled the holes for the cables.

Then i welded the plate and testfit the controls.

Then i made the mounting brackets for mounting the oak top. First i made all the parts i need and then i drilled, tapped, welded, finisht and then mount them inside the desk.

After that i made a hole in the backcover and mounted the connector. The desk only needs 1 powercord the rest will be inside.

Like i said this is just a glimpse of what i did past 3 days and to be honest everytime i thought of taking a picture i was to late. The plan was to bring all parts to the coater tomorrow and i can tell you i made it the parts are ready to go. All parts together.

Ready to go.

The parts are back.I unpacked some parts a made a few pictures.

Time to putt the desk together. This time i lett the pictures speak for themself.

I also painted the parts that needed to be painted. The frontgrill.

Some brushing.

Painted it with varnish.

Then i sanded the oak and painted it with bootslak.

First i attached the frame to the backside along with the controlbox and the psu.I also mounted the oak backpanel and the new controls for the columns.

The columns were not used fror some time so i did a little test and made a small movie while testing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMfIEgbqLdg Then i mounted the cpu block on the motherboard.

Mounted the reservoirs and the motherboard on the mobotray.

Then i start bending the pipes for the first loop.

The loop is finisht at this point so then i mounted the gpu block and the backplate.

Placed the gpu on the mobo.

Next thing to do is instal the second gpu block and backplate and start bending the pipes for the second loop. First i mounted the waterblock, backplate and the twincoonect on the gpu. After that i finisht bending the second loop. I also put on the oak top on the desk just for the looks and it even looks better then i expect. The pictures speak for themselfs so have fun watching.

The final update. It has been a very busy time for lately but the project is finally done.Im not a story teller kinda guy so just sit back en enjoy the pictures.

I want to thank everyone for replying and reading my buildlog and i hope you did enjoy yourselfs.
