Mayor Matichuk determined to make Auditor Generals office permanent

Mayor Marianne Matichuk announced plans Monday to clarify and make permanent the Office of the Auditor General of the City of Greater Sudbury. Mayor Matichuk has been clear in the past that she supports the Office of the Auditor General and has publicly expressed her intention that there should always be an Office of the Auditor General in the City of Greater Sudbury. However, the way the bylaw is currently written, the role of the auditor and the office of the auditor are tied together, Mayor Matichuk said. I think that this has created a great deal of confusion and I intend to fix it. When the previous council created the office of the auditor general, passed the bylaw and hired the auditor, it was determined the office was not intended to be permanent. The Office of the Auditor General has its own line item in the budget. To me this should give the public some comfort that this Office is permanent, Mayor Matichuk said. But to rid any doubt, I want to create a new bylaw that separates the Office of the Auditor General from the position of Auditor General, creating a permanent Office of the Auditor General in the City of Greater Sudbury. The bylaw should also provide for recurring fixed-term contract renewals for the auditor general of no shorter than three years to ensure continuity in the Office of the Auditor General. La mairesse Matichuk est bien dcide assurer la permanence du Bureau du vrificateur gnral
La mairesse Marianne Matichuk a annonc lundi quelle avait des plans pour clarifier le statut du Bureau du vrificateur gnral de la Ville du Grand Sudbury et pour en assurer la permanence. Par le pass, Mme Matichuk a indiqu clairement quelle soutenait le Bureau du vrificateur gnral et elle a dclar publiquement quelle avait lintention de garantir sa prsence permanente au sein de la Ville du Grand Sudbury. Toutefois, selon le rglement municipal actuel, le rle du vrificateur et celui du Bureau du vrificateur sont lis ensemble, a soulev la mairesse. Je crois que ce lien prte confusion et jai lintention dy remdier. Lorsque le Conseil municipal prcdent a mis sur pied le Bureau du vrificateur gnral, quil a adopt le rglement et quil a embauch le vrificateur, il ntait pas prvu que le bureau soit permanent. Un poste du budget est rserv au Bureau du vrificateur gnral, a dclar Marianne Matichuk. Pour moi, cela devrait rassurer le public que ce bureau soit permanent. Mais pour liminer tout doute cet gard, je dsire laborer un nouveau rglement municipal qui distinguera le Bureau du vrificateur gnral du poste de vrificateur gnral, crant ainsi un bureau permanent au sein de la Ville du Grand Sudbury. Le rglement devrait aussi prvoir le renouvellement du contrat dure dtermine du vrificateur gnral pour une priode dau moins trois ans en vue dassurer la continuit du Bureau du vrificateur gnral.
