The earthquake
‘As noted on the OpenStreetMap wiki, the 2010 Chile earthquake occurred off the coast of the Maule Region of Chile, on
February 27, 2010, at 03:34 local time (06:34 UTC), rating a magnitude of 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale and lasting
about three minutes. On 9 March 2010 the ICRC reported that according to the latest government figures, more than 528
people have died, most of them after a tsunami, caused by the tremor, struck a coastal strip of 500 kilometres. More than
500 people have been injured, two million affected and at least 500,000 houses have been damaged.
