Based on the 2012 Budget quote by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the theme National

Transformation Policy: People advocating Budget, National Mensejahtera. Civil servants between the ages of 55 and 60 are able to contribute their skills and experience. Therefore, the government agreed to extend the retirement age from 58 to 60 years old to optimize civil servants' contribution. This extension will not jeopardize employment prospects for the younger generation as the public and private sectors will continue to create new jobs. However, the proposal to extend the retirement age of civil servants from 58 to 60 years of invited various speculations and response whether it is advantageous or not and the decomposing various problems that led to the development of the national economy. The extending of retirement age of 60 years is feasible. Just look at the average life expectancy of our people are now reaching more than 72 years, so retirement is viewed quite a while to go through. Do we have to sit alone or do something to be more active in the economy? If we increase the age of retirement and give a chance to those 55 years and above will be another five years, it can build a more stable society for this age group. Five-year extension that we can use to add human resources and we should use this opportunity fully. In terms of statistic, private sector employees who work in formal not so many. According to statistics from the EPF, some 5.8 million of private sector employees who actively work and about 100,000 retired each year. If we took the next five years, we arrive at about 500,000 workers are not in the job market. Total 500,000 indirectly reduce foreign workers. At the same time, the presence of foreign workers should be managed and systematically. Negative, ie in terms of cost, but we can manage that. Some employers said that this extension will make this old lazy

workers and others. It may happen, but it can be addressed. If you are really an employee's performance deteriorated, the company can take proper action, improve their performance or to terminate a worker directly involved. Does not mean that when an employee is over 55 years of age, may be shaking legs and heated seats, can only salary until retirement at age 60. The knowledge of experienced employees is indeed valuable, but they enjoy relatively higher salaries and better benefits, including medical expenses might increase. If these employees lack the ability to innovate and refuse to adjust, it will turn out to be a burden instead. Fortunately a lot of people with experience and their brains this knowledge can be used for the good of the organization. Despite their age are more but they are still brilliant ideas. However, the young people who are not experienced as senior citizens who had long life and many experiences will be difficult to find a job if majority of his right employers want employees who have experience in the field they want. So, how are this people going to give the opportunity of experience to this youth if the youth did not had a chances directly to gain experience and knowledge of the elderly as many as experienced. If employers take this young people who was not experienced workers will pay less compared with an experienced person. Though of that will make graduate qualifications fall second place compared to the experience of becoming a key factor for an employer to an employee. So, there is just useless if young people graduate study in the field of their choice if they cannot work in the field of they were good. As for society, extending the retirement age could break the myth that Malaysia is turning into a welfare state. If everyone thinks that they can retire early and enjoy life without working, the countrys

competitiveness will then further decline. However, it will be painful for employees and employers to extend the retirement age if the work culture is not improved and the mindset is not adjusted. Working will become torturous for those who do not like or enjoy their work, and do not know how to learn and improve themselves. As we all know, today's working age is between 16 to 64 years. The question of productivity or save 'dead wood' in an organization does not arise because it is not related to age. Young people there are those who are not productive. Ministry sees it as good as experienced manpower requirement should be retained as long as they are able to serve. Some employers say the retirement age will lead to further problems, including in terms of physical strength and health of employees and others. We need to change this situation in line with the government's transformation step to do. We need to do the transformation yourself, take preventive measures to be able to stay energetic and healthy even skip 50 years of age. This improves the quality of life. Changes must also be holistic want done. Change the retirement age, changing lifestyles, changing ways of working and change the way of thinking. But in the meantime, there should be provisions or options to employees who do not want to retire at age 60, who may have their own plans to deal with post-retirement. We cannot force them to continue to work while in their hearts they do not want. Overall, the purpose of the retirement age limit is extended to enable staff in the service of various face rising cost of living, including medical, housing and daily essentials. We see the issue of age has such great implications on the productivity of labor force in the country. Currently, no private sector retirement age determination. This matter is being studied government and ministries, and there is a variety of

initiatives to collect survey information and the result of negotiations with all stakeholders such as ministries, government agencies, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), employer representatives and employee representatives industry before making the best decision for all parties.
