1828 Election b/t Jackson and J. Q. Adams was one of the dirtiest in U.S. history. Whats mudslinging? Mudslinging, hurling reckless accusations, developed. Ordinary citizens loved Jackson, well-born citizens did not.

13.2 What Was The Inauguration Like?


Who Was the New President? Who came to the inauguration? Ordinary citizens (farmers, workers) flooded the White House to witness the inauguration. 3 xs as many voters in the election of 1828 than in the previous one b/c voting laws had been changed so all white men could vote.

How Was He a Self-made Man? Whats a self-made man? Jackson was a self-made man; he achieved success on his own. Fought in the Revolution at age 13. Revolutionary Jackson Had a fiery temper.

Who Was the Frontier Lawyer?


After the Revolution, Jackson became a lawyer in Tennessee. Jackson was shot in a duel by a slave trader who had insulted his wife. He killed the slave trader.

Who Was the Peoples Choice?


Served in both the House and the Senate. How did he become famous? Got his name at the Battle of New Orleans. In b/t the elections of 1824-28, his supporters created the Democratic Party. Promised to represent ordinary farmers, workers, and the poor. Who had been controlling the government? 1828 was a huge victory for the idea that common folks should control the government, which became known as Jacksonian Democracy.
