Denise Glueck's Protocol for a full-body LightWandZ Massage with Marmas

Marma Points
In Thai Massage the energy lines are called the Sen Lines, in Chinese Medicine they are the Meridians and in Yoga and Ayerveda they are called the Prana Nadis. When the lines are open and flowing we feel energized--body, mind and spirit. Along these pathways are specific points called the Marmas. There are 107 Marmas plus the 7 chakras. Marmas are classified into 5 groups: muscle-based, vessel-based, ligament-based, bone-based and joint-based. They all relate to very important physiological and psychological functions. Marmas are centers for the vital life force or Prana--the master power behind both body and mind. Marmas serve as pranic switches that can be turned up or down. Through manipulation or light, prana can be used to release blockages and even tap into the hidden reserves and connect with greater powers of life. Marmas govern the interface between the physical and subtle (pranic bodies) and the interchange of energy and information between them. They are important for healing the subtle body as well as the physical.

Following a short centering meditation, I oil the client's back with long flowing strokes taking time to sense the tone and paying attention to work out the obvious blocks. Then with two wands on low pulse, I start on the upper back close to the spine, gliding down to the base of the spine, circling the sacral joints and back up slowly, saturating the marmas on the upper back and shoulders and both sides of the neck and along the skull with light. I then oil and massage the hip (Left first in women, right in men). With two wands I stimulate the Marmas on the hip on low, medium and high...and then continue on the leg and foot. I find when working with two wands I can leave one on the Marma, vein or blemish while I work the wand in another spot. It feels very natural to run the energy lines on the inside and outside of the leg which is very important in Thai massage. I repeat the steps on the other hip, leg and foot. I turn the client over and begin working on the feet and leg flowing up and down the inside and outside leg lines paying special attention over the ankles and knees. Repeat on other leg. Moving up to the stomach, I massage in a circular pattern from right to left. One wand is placed on the upper abdomin and the lower wand continues to circle around the navel. I move to the heart center and work the sternum and chest marmas. Then oiling both arms at the same time, I begin working the marmas on the arm and hand, Repeat side two before moving to neck, head, and scalp marmas. I end with a LightWandZ facial. Clients see and feel the effects on all layers of their being... physical, mental and spiritual!
