Welcome to Your Turn To Intern
By Meghan Stoneburner Why did y ou choose to do a n inter nship ? I don't follow the premise that a college student should just learn what is taught in classes and then expect to find a job right after graduation. I knew I had to do something above and beyond the call of duty in order to stand out among my peers. Getting an internship would give me the edge and knowledge needed to become employed after graduation. How did y ou f ind your inter nship ? Besides becoming President of the only Marketing club on campus, the KENNESAW MARKETING ASSOCIATION (KMA), I searched for the right internship to fit my goals and my abilities, which was harder than I expected. I interviewed for an internship I was very excited about and ended up not getting it. But that almost immediately led me to the SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO) internship I have now with Jenny Munn, an Atlanta SEO Consultant and Trainer, who has helped me learn aspects of the Marketing world that isn't taught in college. 1. Perfecting your Resume

Visit Coles Career Services Lab or the Career Services Center to find out about resumes. Once you think you have perfected your resume, show it to a few friends and even a professor to see where you could improve. You dont want to apply to a bunch of internships with a half done resume or one filled with errors.

There are several great websites where you can search for internships:

Internmatch.com SimplyHired.com

After youve checked your resume thoroughly, start searching on the sites listed above. Input your major or the areas you are interested in and where you live or are willing to travel to and see what comes up. If it looks interesting and you fit the qualifications, apply. Its quite simple. Find what looks like a good learning experience and just apply. The more internships you apply for, the better your chances of finding the right one for you.
