One of the major four holidays of the year. The Mythological background- Jurijevo is dedicated to Jarilo (the God of Spring and vegetation). Jarilo has found that he is worthy of marriage. As he wanted to marry a worthy woman, he starts to climb up the wet and mossy roots of the World tree. Not knowing he is the son of Perun, he climbs up to his world- through the world of humans and animals. So, he brings us Spring and heat. As he climbs up, it becomes hotter and hotter- Until he climbs up to Mora, and falls in love her. Just as Summer and Winter arrive every year, so does Mara and Jarilo live and die, every year. Sometimes, wreaths are made of urdev flowers; The women made water with herbs, and put it outside. In the morning, every house member washes their face with the waterfor a wish to come true. On the Jurijevo day: Burning a doll representing Baba Yaga (the Winter), firing bonfires, egg painting (mostly red), tree planting. In some parts of the Slavic lands, colorful parades of animals and people (dressed as animals) are made.
