Prior to 2011, Dallas bike facilities consisted of signed on-street routes and trails
The Dallas Bike Plan was adopted in 2011 Focus of the new plan is dedicating space on the roadways for cyclists via striping and physical separation from cars Goal is to have separated bicycle facilities across the city to improve mobility and safety Plan also calls for use of best practices related to bicycle advocacy, education and enforcement Goal is to implement the plan over 10 years Implementation plan divided work into three phases Near, Medium, and Long Term

The Bikeway System calls for a total of1,127 miles of bicycle facilities
Near-Term Project implementation (2012 2014) Estimated cost in 2011 dollars is approximately $975,000 and does not include maintenance Priority implementation nearer to most employment centers, educational facilities, and rail transit stations

Currently the Dallas Street Department has $500k/year to implement on-street bike facilities

The Medium and Long-Term areas will be implemented through a combination of:
Currently funded at $500,000/yr Approx. $575k in 2012 Bond funds for street resurfacing over 4 years.
In order to adhere to the 10-year implementation schedule, additional funding is required. Possible funding sources include:
