CAL POLY POMONA PRIDE CENTER (LGBTIQQ) INTERNSHIP

Under the supervision of the Interim Senior Coordinator for the Cultural Centers & Coordinator for the Pride Center, the Graduate Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the Student Life & Cultural Center staff of a major CSU campus. California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is known for its beautiful and historic 1,400-acre campus, once the Arabian horse ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg, the university has an ethnically diverse student population of about 19,000. The Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers exist to support student development, cultural enhancement, social justice and academic excellence. We adhere to the belief that student involvement results in retention, improved academic performance and leadership. Through cocurricular education and academic support we empower students to go into their communities and effect/make positive changes. We envision our work will contribute to the enhancement and strengthening of our local and global communities.

Queer student development theory and practice Workshop development & presentation Event planning Supervision and feedback on their interactions with students

Qualifications: Preferably be enrolled in a MS/MA graduate program (College Students Affairs, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Educational Psychology or related degree). Be knowledgeable about LGBTIQQ identities, culture and experiences. Able to work with diverse populations of students. Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team environment. Strong organizational skills. Must be able to display a strong level of professionalism. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Energetic, self-starter. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Commitment:

Support, mentor, advise, motivate and evaluate Pride Center Social Justice Leaders. Provide guidance and oversight of daily operations of the Pride Center (including responsibility for resource library, assisting with walk-ins, and maintaining a safe space). Coordinate training and scheduling of LGBT Speakers Bureau Panels. Provide appropriate support, advice and referrals to LGBT and ally students as necessary. Organize and plan Pride Center signature events such as Q-Camp (Welcome Back Orientation to LGBT Campus Life) and Lavender Graduation Celebration. Organize and facilitate when appropriate LGBT workshops and Safe Zone Ally Training. Organize and plan events to help build community, and support the coming out process. Oversee, organize, and help facilitate Rap Groups. Assist with co-advising queer identified CPP student clubs/organizations.
