Poetry Reading - April 29th In celebration of National Poetry Month, the UHS Library will be holding its rst annual poetry reading on Monday, April 29th after school! Bring one of your original works to read, or select a poem that is meaningful to you and read it out loud to share with others. Light refreshments will be served and everyone that wants to will have a chance to read. All are welcome! National Poetry Month occurs every April when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States collectively celebrate poetry and its importance in American culture. Thousands of organizations observe National Poetry Month by participating in readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and other events. Want to participate, but cant attend the reading? One Book, One Community Reading Program to Take Place at UHS!


Join us at UHS on Tuesday 5/21 at 7pm as we welcome award-winning author Christopher Castellani to Uxbridge! Chriss newest book, All This Talk of Love, was chosen as our One Book, One Community read, with events throughout the fall centered on the immigrant experience in America. The aim of this community project is to bring generations together to share family histories and experiences. Thanks to the support and generosity of the Uxbridge Free Public Library Board of Trustees, the rst fty participants to sign up will receive a free copy of this book. Other events throughout the year include a panel discussion on the immigrant experience on July 17th featuring notable authors and speakers, well as a lm/performance series in the fall. The One Book, One Community Project is a collaborative effort between UHS, the Uxbridge Free Public Library, the Council on Aging, and Uxbridge Community Television.

This months spotlighted iPad apps

Feeling overwhelmed and short on time to explore the various iPad apps available for download? Use this monthly feature as a guide to help you sift through everything thats out there. This month, learn about some helpful language-related apps.

Google Translate allows you to translate words and phrases between more than 60 languages. Listen to your translations spoken aloud, display translations in full screen mode, and star your favorite translations for quick access even when you are ofine.

The UHS Book Club had another interesting discussion last month. We welcomed some more new members, and picked another great book for our Wednesday, April 24th meeting after school. We are reading and discussing Nina LaCours The Disenchantments. New members are always welcome! We also created an Edmodo discussion group to enhance our book chats. Learn Spanish is a mobile phrasebook recorded using a native speaker with authentic pronunciation. Other features include the option to play speech back at a slower speed, the ability to search by keywords, and the ability to store frequently used words as favorites.

The B Babbel apps exist for multiple languages and apps contain 2,000 3,000 vocab words per language, accompanied by images and pronounced for you by native speakers. Other features include organization of lessons by theme, speech recognition, and review tools.

Calling All Student Writers


Mrs. Fournier is looking for student writers again to contribute to the library blog. Have an original work youd like to share? Or maybe youd like to review a recent book youve read? Think about showcasing your talents on the library blog. Wed all love to hear what you have to say! Curious about the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, but no way to get there for a visit? Well, now the museum offers 3D virtual panoramic tours of its rooms, exhibits, and artifacts. A zoom feature also allows more detailed viewings of artifacts.
