Introduction to Management Information Systems: Group Project What do you plan to study? For the group project in Management Information Systems we are going to look at JP Morgans Treasury Services APAC (Asia Pacific) Division headquartered here in Hong Kong. We will focus particularly on the Information Risk Management Unit. This unit takes a macro view of the treasury service products JPMorgan provides to its customers. They are responsible to ensure internal and external systems meet all client and regulator requirements. Ensuring that that money and client information is being moved through JPMorgan is secure and in accordance with sovereign laws. Why is it interesting? Treasury Services fast growing and trending area in international banking. With new regulation i.e Dodd-Frank and Basel 3 business units that are more traditional and arent as effected by market forces are very popular. Trillions of dollars are processed everyday by JPMorgan systems alone. This service allows multinational corporations, governments and financial institutions to operate its daily business. The products also allow the CFOs access to all accounts with the firm. From there liquidity, currency and interest rate risk can understood. This industrys competitive advantage is particularly pushed by technology, the more advanced systems become the more likely a bank will be chosen by a client. Yet since risks to one bank is a risk to another banks will work together to solve issues. What are the focal questions? What is the main concern for Information Managers at Multi-national Financial Institution? How does JPMorgan and the industry go about solving these concerns?

How do you plan to acquire the data? We will conduct in person meetings and interviews with several J.P. Morgan employees from analysts to managing directors in order to gain insight on different ways that J.P. Morgan uses information systems to ensure secure data. We will begin with topical areas of concern and as we receive more feedback will focus more on specific service JPMorgan provides that is particularly susceptible to informational risk. Once the product

is chosen we will do the market research learning all the risk factors and what technology is being utilized to mitigate them. For this we will rely on primary data, trade publications, Bloomberg terminal research and in person meetings at JPMorgans offices. A day in the life perspective will give our presentation and report a unique aspect that will be difficult to replicate. Foreseeable challenges? Most of our challenges will deal with the proprietary and confidential information that JPMorgan cannot disclose. We will need to do our best to gain the best understanding without being too broad. So the topic will have to be chosen carefully to make sure our final project will have depth and clarity. Also this topic is fairly difficult to understand so we must to get too technical when we are explaining to the class. We will find a process that is easy for everyone to understand utilize it for our presentation.
