The Busy Bee

------- Lifestyle ------------------------------------------Food Review: Cracked Crab Words and Photo by B. Thao Pismo Beach, Calif. A local favorite, the Cracked Crab on the main drag of Pismo Beach offers some of the best seafood on the California Central Coast. The menu is printed fresh every day to account for the availability of local produce. Everything is freshly made, including the desserts. Although I am not a fan of fusion style foods, I absolutely adore the Calamari appetizer. It is lightly breaded and served with a mildly spicy sweet and sour sauce. The textures and flavors just work well together. However, the reason I keep coming back to the Cracked Crab is the Crab Bisque. It is a wonderfully creamy texture with hints of cayenne pepper to spice the flavor just enough. Its warm and smooth and always soothes my soul. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting that while their chef is a wonderful chef, they have an inability to make my favorite seafood dish: fish and chips. Theres just something wrong about fish and chips that arent dripping in just the right amount of grease and oil. Oddly enough, for the amount of time Ive spent in the Cracked Crab, Ive never bothered to order their specialty: the Bucket for Two. Its a large bucket of a choice of three types of shellfish, placed on the table. It looks like good fun and appears relatively inexpensive at $75. The best part of the experience is the crayons for coloring on the paper table tops. If youre in the area, stop by for some Cracked Crab; just dont stay for the fish and chips.
