I have two big Thank Yous this week. Firstly, to all who helped in any way to making Holy Week and Easter so wonderful and memorable Thank you! The Liturgies were excellent and its due to the hard work of many on the parish sta, of volunteers and ordinary parishioners that we can have these beau ful celebra ons. We welcomed many new sisters and brothers into the Church at the Easter Vigil, and Fr. David, our Pastor, really went that extra mile ge ng right into the Bap smal Font to personally bap ze our elect. You could see him posi vely glow for the remainder of the celebra on! Our collec on for Bishop Michael Lenihan, OFM, of the Diocese of La Ceiba, Honduras, who preached the Lenten retreat, came to almost $23,000. This is a staggeringly generous amount of money from you, the people of San Luis Rey Parish. On behalf of our brother Michael, I personally want to thank you from my heart for this wonderful missionary spirit. The money will be used by Bishop Michael to begin to build some pastoral structures in his new diocese of a million and a half people. He will be wri ng to us in the next weeks to update us and express his thanks and that of the people of La Ceiba Diocese for the extraordinary kindness you have shown them. Thank you once again, and God bless you!

OPERATION HOMEFRONT
Our parish will be par cipa ng in Opera on Homefronts 2013 Back-to-School Brigade as a way to assist military children with school supplies. The goal for 2013 is to support 4,150 military children in California with a new backpack and new school supplies. This is an increase of 25% from the support provided last year. We will be accep ng new unwrapped school supplies, new backpacks and/or monetary dona ons the weekends of May 12 and May 19 a er Masses. Opera on Homefront works with distributors in the community to purchase in bulk allowing those that donate the funds to have their dollars stretch even farther. Esta semana tengo dos grandes agradecimientos. Primeramente, a todos los que ayudaron en cualquier forma para hacer que la Semana Santa y Pascua fuera maravillosa y memorableGracias! Las Liturgias fueron excelentes y es debido al gran trabajo de muchos del personal parroquial, de voluntarios y de feligreses ordinarios que nosotros podemos tener estas hermosas celebraciones. En la Vigilia de Pascua, le dimos la bienvenida a nuestros nuevos hermanos y hermanas dentro de la Iglesia y el Padre David, nuestro Prroco, realmente se esforz entrando en la Fuente Bau smal para personalmente bau zar a nuestros elegidos. Usted poda verlo resplandecer por el resto de la celebracin! Nuestra colecta para el Obispo Michael Lenihan, OFM de la Dicesis de La Ceiba, Honduras, quien predic en nuestro Re ro Cuaresmal, lleg a casi $23,000. Esta es una can dad asombrosamente generosa de su parte, de la comunidad de la Parroquia Misin San Luis Rey. De parte de nuestro hermano Michael, yo quiero personalmente agradecerles desde el fondo de mi corazn por este maravilloso espritu misionero. El Obispo Michael u lizar este dinero para empezar a construir algunas estructuras pastorales en su nueva dicesis de un milln y medio de personas. El nos escribir en las prximas semanas para ponernos al tanto y para expresar su agradecimiento y el de la comunidad de la Dicesis de La Ceiba por la extraordinaria gen leza que ustedes les han mostrado. El primer da de mayo es reconocido como el da mundial del trabajo y conmemora seis mr res de Chicago, quienes fueron fusilados en 1886 cuando la polica trat de impedir una pelea campal durante una huelga de obreros. Curiosamente esta fecha no es reconocida por los Estados Unidos pero s por muchos pases de Amrica La na. En 1954, el Papa Pi XII apoy los derechos del obrero incluyendo a san Jos Obrero en el calendario cris ano. Esta esta celebra y recuerda la doctrina social de la Iglesia Catlica, una doctrina que insiste que: El mensaje cris ano no aparta a las personas de la edicacin del mundo, ni les lleva a despreocuparse del bien de sus semejantes, sino que les impone esta colaboracin como un deber (Gaudiam et Spes 34). Es justo conmemorar a san Jos como obrero en el da mundial del trabajado, porque este santo nos recuerda que con el trabajo uno colabora con Dios en la con nua creacin del mundo y de la humanidad. El trabajo no slo es derecho humano es una responsabilidad que se debe tomar con amor al prjimo.
