This approach allows you to copy either all or only some selected parts of your organization, according to the requirements of your actual business scenario. See the figure on the next page.

For example, you can create a copy that comprises only those organizational units that will feature in the future spin-off of your enterprise. Such selections can be made not only at company code level but also for entities such as operating concerns, controlling areas, sales organizations, purchasing organizations, and plants. The approach even allows for such complex selection and transformation rules as this: copy all customers who are based in Mexico and the ones which are not flagged as deleted.

Depending on project complexity, up to three runs are performed with test data. For these runs, you provide a test system an up-to-date copy of your productive system reserved exclusively for tests. After each test changeover, the customer and project team members check whether the conditions defined in the blueprint phase have been met. Before the productive run can take place, the team must verify the test results in detail, confirm that all changeover prerequisites are met, and secure an audit opinion. When you are satisfied with the test results, the productive run can start. As the transformation requires the productive environment to be locked for all other activities, this part of the project usually takes place over a weekend so as to disrupt daily business as little as possible.

During the project, you are asked to provide a contact person from your core technology team who is able to deal with the projects technical requirements. You should also ensure that contact people from the relevant user departments are able to support the project team with application-specific issues. A dedicated contact from SAP with extensive project and application experience assists the project team through every phase of the conversion. Furthermore, the project team is available after the end of the project for postevaluation activities and possible follow-up projects.
