What is the Truth I was alive and would like to consider myself conscious during the Reagan years,

as he was undoubtedly the formative President of my youth. He definitely had his detractors including the iconoclast Christopher Hitchens. Who in recent months may have softened a bit in his tartness regarding the Reagan presidency when in a very limited fashion admitted: In a bizarre way, though, his simple-mindedness turns out to have had a touch of genius to it. Merely a historical figure in the eyes of today's youth. Unless, they were mercilessly prostalized to abject adoration or indoctrinated to desires to immolate the man. Nonetheless, one cannot discount the insatiable desire for a father figure, a benevolent dictator, or the polycephalic nanny state. Liberty is always in the balance and the illusion of control continually peddled by those used car dealer would by those in positions of persuasion, or those who were caught up in the message (self-serving or truly believed) or those whose faith and therefore livelihood was so threatened by his ideology and it's resultant crazed-allegations. For example the claim by the then famed homeless advocate Mitch Snyder who claimed that a homeless person dies every. Or the fact that black americans would find his message threatening when in the face of discrimination climbed out of poverty in considerable measure by finding employment and affluence in the public sector. The wealthiest Perhaps a more balanced view can be assuaged from the raw data. This is always a challenge as it depends on who is cooking the books. So, I wanted to review his record as best I could without the strength of his personality, wit and charm to see what I felt about his legacy. The growth of the economy as measured by GDP 2.768 Trillion in 1980 5.061 Trillion in 1988 An increase of 55% The economy definitely grew during this time period. But how does this compare to other similar times. In the period from 1960-1968 In the period from 1968-1976 In the period from 1976-1980 In the period from 1988-1992 In the period from .1992-2000 In the period from 2000-2008 520.301 Billion to 901.456 Billion Increase to 1.809 Trillion Increased to 2.768 Trillion Increased 6.292 Trillion Increased to 9.899 Trillion Increased to 14.369 Trillion An Increase of 58% An Increase of 65% An Increase of 65% An Increase of 44% An Increase of 64% An Increase of 68%

When analyzing these numbers while the economy grew at a very nice clip during the Reagan administration. The afterglow which would George Bush I was relatively modest in comparison to other administrations including Carter's years of malaise which showed an increase in GDP of 65%. Contrasting that with the Clinton administration in which he again raised tax rates the growth in the economy did seem to suffer the effects that were prognosticated by those who claimed a tax increase on the achievers' would adversely effect progress. Of course this is simplistic as it does not take into account the outsourcing, loss of the industrial sector, the bogus paper wealth that was created during this period. But if the benchmark is the unleashed capitalistic spirit of the American people when the achievers keep more of their money to invest is at best inconclusive. Another claim is that a growing economy increases the tax-base (expressed in millions)

When did the program end? It didn't. The program authorized by the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 includes one last piece of Interstate that is likely to be built under the terms of the 1956 Act. It is a connection north of Philadelphia to close the last gap in I-95. The project involves an I-95 interchange with the Pennsylvania Turnpike and an additional bridge over the Delaware River parallel to the existing bridge. Review of the proposed project under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 has been completed and detailed design is underway. In addition, States continue to develop routes outside the 1956 Act program that may be added to the Interstate System under existing legislation or that have been or will be declared "future Interstates" by Federal legislation.
