We strive for an ideal patient care experience, so its wonder-

ful to receive recognition for our efforts and to be ranked year after year among the nations best in all the specialties. U.S. News introduced the Best Childrens Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available. The rankings offer quality-related information at the individual hospital level. We have worked very hard at improving quality of care, safety and patient satisfaction at C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital, so it is very meaningful to be honored once again as a comprehensive childrens hospital in all of the specialty pediatric disciplines, says Dr. Valerie Castle, Ravitz professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Communicable

Diseases and a pediatric oncologist. Dr. Chris Dickinson, interim executive director of C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital, said hes glad that U.S. News and World Report has recognized the tremendous care provided for the children at C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital. This ranking, along with the recent Parents Magazine ranking that placed C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital eighth in the nation, demonstrate that we are on the right track, providing top-notch care for often the sickest children with the most complicated diseases from Michigan and around the world, says Dickinson, who also is a professor of pediatric gastroenterology.

Leadership program entering 30th year

A program aimed at better connecting people with their community is marking a milestone year and currently accepting applications. Leadership A2Y, the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chambers leadership program will celebrate its 30th anniversary this fall. The leadership programs from both the former Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Chambers of Commerce combined in 2010 to create Leadership A2Y a regional program whose mission is to provide a foundation for the development of a sustainable and vital region based upon an informed and committed business community. The program has established itself as one of the most effective methods for learning about the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area and meeting its core leaders. The nine-month curriculum provides participants with an appreciation for the complex issues facing our community. Topics include economic development, community services, education, local government, health care, justice and quality of life. Leadership also provides individuals with an opportunity to explore and enhance their own leadership skills and develop a broad network of relationships that carry on long after the program ends. Combining improved leadership skills with new associations allows individuals to better represent their businesses, responsibly serve a deserving non-profit organization and be an energetic steward of the community.
