a SPECIAL SECTION of the LEBANON DEMOCRAT, MT. JULIET NEWS and HARTSVILLE VIDETTE
Fall/Winter 2013/2014 will not disappoint when it comes to jewelry and accessory trends. From rocker chic to romantic there is something for everyone. Details such as layers, textures, pearls and faux fur adorn your accessories this season. The same fashion trends you see for your Fall Fashions are the same trends you see in your accessories. Think about the Vegan Leather clothing you are seeing everywhere, its no different with your accessories. Necklaces with vegan leather cording instead of chain, wide cuff bracelets with vegan leather bands or even scarves with vegan leather trim. What are your favorite fashion trends this fall? Pantone Color of the Year Emerald? Or is it the layering of feminine texture or the mix of pattern? Do you like gold, silver, resin or natural stone? What about the structured suiting trend (think mens wear meets Dynasty with a bit of feminine softness). This fall the statement piece is the necklace. Last year we were layering, stacking and mixing as many bracelets as possible (this still looks great but we have moved up a bit). The statement necklace is a bold piece that has color, texture, mixed metals or all of these elements. It is worn daytime or evening and has multi uses. The great part of the statement

necklace is you may purchase this beautiful necklace for that special night out but the next day you are layering it with two more necklaces and a casual T-shirt. Think outside that box! Layering! Layering! Layering! Mix your necklaces, short and long. Add color, add sparkle and add personal style. There are very few rules when layering the necklaces this fall. Choose a common theme or color and mix away! Crystal, resin and semim precious stones can all be worn together. The juxt and position of mixing formal and casual works great when layering. Do you like the suiting trend this fall? Do you find yourself wearing the menswear inspired jackets? You will really enjoy wearing the single chunky chain necklace and bracelet. These large link accessories work very well with the tailored suiting pieces. Flat link is the trendiest of all. You can wear the 14k gold chain purchased from your local jeweler or you can purchase the chunky flat link chain as a fashion jewelry piece, either way you will enjoy the simplicity of this style. To wear gold or not to wear gold, that is the biggest question! Gold jewelry continues to be hot. Over the last decade silver jewelry has taken the accessory world by storm. Platinum and white gold have dominated the fine jewelry world. Sterling silver, stainless steel and silver- toned fashion jewelry have been extremely popular for fashion jewelry. Making a come back is Yellow Gold! No matter if it is fine jewelry or fashion jewelry be sure that you look at gold when choosing a few new pieces of jewelry. v
Have FUN this season with your layering, mixing color and texture!

It happens every year, summer is winding down and youre looking forward to sweatshirts and jeans, cool breezes and frosted mornings. On the other hand your glorious tan lines and golden kissed skin tones are fading faster than the leaves on the trees. Fall is arriving and this is the perfect time to renew, repair and refresh your skin. The summer months have exposed your skin to several aggressive elements including the sun, sand, insect repellents and tanning lotions. In the mirror your skin is looking rough, dry and drab. As a Medical Aesthetician Ive learned some helpful tips that can mean the difference between transitioning flawlessly into fall or falling behind with your skin.
During the summer months fruity gel cleansers are a popular treat. Ditch the oil robbing products and make sure your favorite isnt drying out your skin. As the cooler weather sets in youll want a face and body wash that is soap free as well as hydrating. One of my favorites is Beauty Marks Organic Orange Cream Cleanser. A milky cleanser with anti-aging ingredients that is also great for removing make-up. Visit your favorite aesthetician and indulge yourself with an enzyme mask or clinical grade chemical peel. Enzymes are naturally derived from fruit and quickly digest and eliminate dead surface cells leaving your skin smooth and fresh. There are many different chemical peels available but I prefer to use a Modified Jessner Peel on most of my clients. Its a fantastic blend of Lactic, Salicylic and Glycolic acids that gives significant exfoliation and brightening without the down time typically associated with traditional chemical peels. Salt or sugar oil based body scrubs are best during colder months and benefits include mechanical exfoliation (dead skin cells are rubbed off with an abrasive) along with hydrating, vitamin packed oils. I suggest body scrubs be used up to twice a week during the cooler-dryer months to slough off dead skin
#3 Exfoliate
Super Hydrate. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day will keep your skin moisturized and help eliminate toxins. Eating foods rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids and antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C and E can help reverse summer damage and help prepare your skin for the challenges it will face during winter. My favorites during fall are walnuts, pumpkin and squash.

and help retain surface moisture. Brown Sugar Body Polish by Fresh has a superior blend of primrose, sweet almond, apricot kernel and jojoba oils.
I cannot stress this enough; if you want to keep your skin supple and dewy during fall you must moisturize on a daily basis. De-hydrating environmental elements are working against you everywhere you go! Even your car heater is de-hydrating your skin! Facial products that contain emollients (which actually retain and draw atmospheric moisture to the skin) are best. Body lotions that contain natural oils and butters will help seal in moisture that the outside environment is stripping away everyday. Soap and Glorys The Righteous Butter Body Lotion delivers the perfect level of moisture to dry skin. It is rich in shea and cocoa seed butters, rosehip seed oils, aloe vera and vitamin E.
Although the suns radiation is less intense, you should continue protecting your skin from damaging UV rays. Use a daily sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 15 andremember to re-apply twice daily for ultimate sun protection. Prep and Prime Beauty Balm by Mac is lightly tinted and creamily re-texurizes your skin and has an SPF of 35. v

Turn the pumpkin into a flower pot. Fill a hollow pumpkin with soil. You may not have to worry about scraping the pumpkin completely clean because the pulp can be used to help fertilize the potting soil. Plant your favorite fall flowers into the festive and earth-friendly flower pot. When the pumpkin shows signs of rotting, simply put the whole thing into a traditional flower pot or bury it directly in the ground. Make pumpkin stock. While vegetable or meat-based
stocks may be the standards, pumpkin can be used to make stock as well. Clean out the seeds from the stringy guts of the pumpkin and put the guts into a pot filled with water. Add celery, carrots or any other aromatic vegetables for extra flavor. Allow to boil for at least 30 minutes. The stock is ready when it begins to change color. Strain and reserve the stock for use in a variety of recipes.
ing puree in a food processor and reserve flesh for recipes. Some pumpkins are sweeter or better to use as part of recipes. Check the variety youre purchasing.
Whip up a facial. Use some pumpkin puree with a little brown sugar and a dash of milk to create a vitamin-rich facial mask. Get illuminated. Turn hollowed-out mini pumpkins
into candles. Melt soy wax, beeswax or the gel type of candle wax that can be found at most craft stores. Add your favorite scent and place a wick into the bottom of the pumpkin. Then pour the wax into hallowed-out space and allow it to harden. Try the same thing with bumpy and multi-colored gourds for added decorating appeal.
Add to compost bins. Pumpkins are rich in zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C, among other nutrients. You can add the discarded pumpkins to your backyard compost bins to further replenish the soil. Turn into a billowing cauldron. Instead of a standard jack-o-lantern, put a glass jar into the carved pumpkin, add dish soap and hot water to the jar and then put in a piece of dry ice. Bubbles and smoke will pour out of the pumpkin to create a spooktacular effect. v
