ABSTRACT
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique has been
recently under investigation for its application on wideband wireless
communication systems. The project introduces the OFDM system and its various
applications, and explains in detail the installation of the transmitter and the
receiver used in the system. It also discusses the most significant impairments that
could negatively affect the performance of the system, and how to deal with its
effects to avoid degradation in the system performance.
For comparison purposes with another wideband communication system, the project
introduces the spread spectrum communication systems (SSCS). It discusses the
basic types of SSCS, namely direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) and
frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). It also discusses the generation and
properties of pseudo noise (PN) code that is used in signal spreading and
dispreading.
This project includes explanation of the mobile evolution. Also we will discuss
the mobile communication network elements and have discussion about handoff
process and power control techniques. Also, we it explains the channel fading
phenomena, it's features, causes and all of the fading kinds in details. Finally, as
a practical part in this project, the basic building blocks of OFDM is investigated
using computer simulation
