At the very least, I believe that collegiality requires thet we thoroughly discuss this dramatic change in ow membership via a conference cell. Asto substance, the proposal would sisk (if Davidson doesnt accept) substituting two schools which add little to our basketball aspirations to seplace George Meson In addition, asl have said numerous times, adding a school further from nyc then Hofstra, but in the seme long islend media and recruitment tersitory does not make any sense to us, especially in light of the fact the they are already associated with CAA football Since our lest telephone meeting Tom andI have worked with some vigor to develop information and membership scenarios for the CAA. As past of this process, we have also had conversetions with several of you seeking your opinions. Tom and his staff have vetted seven candidate universities that either we have identified or have contacted the CAA expressing interest in membership, ‘These institutions ere: Albeny, Davidson, Elon, Faisfield, Hampton, Stony Brook & UNC Greensboro. As a sesult of our review, Tom and/or I have visited with the Presidents of Elon, Stony Brook and Davidson and Tom has visited with the athletic director of Frisfield and had recent conversations with the President of Hampton. The Presidents of Elon and Davidson have discussed CAA. membership with their board executive committees. Tom has developed en anslysis of our opportunities based on academic quality, athletic performance and reputation with specific emphesis on the ability to enhance the conference basketball programs, Based on Tom's report and enslysis which s attached to this memorandum, I seek your approval to move forwardwith membership offers to Devidson, Elon end Stony Brook with the understanding that, es in the pest, your final approval will be required for each membership agreement Itis my hope thet you will agree vie seturn email to proceed-with this plan. Of course, sf frther discussion is needed, we will be heppy to set up a conference call ‘While I cannot guarantee we will succeedin secusing all three of these institutions as CAA members, given our preliminery conversetions end the dynamics of the Southern and America East Conferences, I believe this is the time to move forward. ‘Thenk you for your consideration.
