Welcome to the FIRST and ONLY 3rd Annual All-Womens Triathlon in New Mexico!

This years race will take place at Rio Rancho Aquatic Center. In these information sheets you will find answers to most race related questions. If you cant find the answers you need, contact us at livelovetri2011@gmail.com. A portion of all proceeds will go to benefit The Barrett House (www.barrettfoundation.org). The Barrett Foundation is a local non-profit dedicated to a collaborative approach to homeless intervention. At Barrett, they strongly believe that collaborating with other agencies in their field brings a synergy that benefits the women and children they serve. They serve the Albuquerque Community as a whole. The Barrett House was founded in 1985 as an emergency shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness. It now provides an average of 22,000 meals, 7,000 bed nights and over 1,000 hours of case management a year for more than 800 women and children. In additional to receiving housing and meals, each client works with a case manager to set short and long term goals to help rebuild their self-esteem, develop skills they need to live independently, move to stable housing and lead productive lives. Their goals are aligned with live.love.tris. They are an amazing group of people!

The timing is done using a chip. This chip must be picked up on the morning of race day. Please allow some extra time to do this, since all athletes will have to pick it up on race day. The chip is attached to a Velcro band that you put around your ankle. It is waterproof and should be worn during the entire race, including the swim. If you are racing on a team the chip has to be passed between the participants on

your team during the transitions. Transitions and passing off of ankle chip will take place at the area where you have racked your bike. In order for your time to be registered you must cross over the mats at all entry/exit locations to the transition area. If you do not the system will not be able to read and register your time.

Course Information
This is a sprint triathlon. It starts with a 3 mile run, followed by a 10 mile bike, and ends with a mile swim. Below is a plot of the transition area, showing in what directions you will enter and exit the transition area. It is up to each participant to know and understand all routes. AquaBike Participants will start in the pool area and make their way out to the bike area after completing the pool portion.

Transition area: The transition area will be marked by race/bib number with 7 bikes per rack. Please read and study this map to know where to bike in and run in. It is the racers responsibility to know and understand the route.

Run: The run course is a hilly loop course. You will exit the parking lot going to the left northwards on the pavement along Loma Colorado. Follow signs, chalking and colored flags stuck in the ground. At all times during the run you should stay on the trails or sidewalks (never on the street). The run starts as a mass start.

Bike: The bike course is moderately hilly, and is an out-and-back course. You will exit the transition area and take a left onto Loma Colorado. There will be a police car at the turnaround point. The bike course is NOT closed to traffic, so please be careful! Police and volunteers are available to help at intersections but ultimately you are responsible for your own safety. See attached maps for the course. As a rule of thumb, if there is an intersection and there are no signs/volunteers, keep biking straight ahead.

Swim:

Exit Pool/Finish Line Enter Pool

The swim starts in the northeast corner of the pool immediately when you enter the building. The swim is a serpentine swim, meaning you swim up and down once each lane, and then swim under the lane marker into the next lane for your next up-anddown swim. Keep to the right at all times, to avoid head-on collisions. You share the pool with other athletes, so please be courteous. If a faster swimmer catches up with you, stop at the end of the lane and let them pass. AquaBike swimmers will start against the far wall and swim in the opposite direction of all other swimmers. They will exit by the area closest to the door to run to the transition area. They will be complete with their swim by the time the other athletes enter the pool.
