The government plans to increase the number of students enrolled in the distance education system from 16 lakh to over 80 lakh in the next 5 years, and the planning commission has recommended that distance education meet 40% of the higher education requirement. To meet these ambitious goals, having a quality distance education institute is of paramount importance. Personal contact program


In order to supplement the students efforts through self-study, the students are encouraged to attend contact sessions. These contact sessions are counselling sessions to discuss and clear doubts related to the topics covered. It gives an opportunity to understand subjects better and encourage peer-to-peer learning. Also, it extends benefits in completion of internal assessment and project guidance. Another advantage of Personal Contact Programs is to familiarize the student with the examination pattern and provide tips on how to prepare well for the examinations. The contact sessions would be conducted at select locations and the same would be notified to the students on the website.

Placement support
SMU-DE aims to provide its students a successful career. iRize, a placement cell promoted by Manipal Group works towards assisting in employability of the SMU-DE students and taking efforts to place them in major corporate houses. Job fairs
iRize conducts job fairs across India. Over 70 job fairs have been conducted in the past 4 months across 40 locations. These job fairs are conducted to facilitate placement opportunities for the alumni and current students of SMU-DE. Over 3200 students and over 90 employers from multiple fields, such as, IT, Media, Automobile, BFSI, FMCG and Retail participated leading to over 350 placements.

Guest Lecture Series

Every student shall undertake a Project work, preferably a live one, of six months duration either at place of work or other, in the chosen area of specialisation to complete the program. The project work will be equivalent to 4 credits.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility: Minimum 3 year Graduation from a recognised University and student must qualify the SMU-DE Entrance# test Program duration: 2 years (4 semesters) plus 6 month project work Exemption for Entrance test conducted by the University to MBA program: A candidate has a score card of National/ International MBA Entrance Test* and his/ her score is 45 percentile or above. However, the score card should not be more than one year old at the time of admission at SMU-DE.

Procedure For Admission

Fill the enquiry form by visiting the website www.smude.edu.in Fill up all the details in the online application You can make the payment via your credit card through the payment gateway or via demand draft You will be given an acknowledgment number on successful submission of the application form online Take a print of the application form. This form along with attested copies of the eligibility documents (signed by a gazetted officer or notary) should be couriered to the address given below: New Admission Section Directorate of Distance Education Sikkim Manipal University Syndicate House, Manipal 576 104, Karnataka. University shall verify the application form and documents for admission to the programme.

Note: If the certificates/ documents submitted by the candidate are found fake then admission granted stands cancelled and the fees remitted will also be forfeited.

Fee Payment
Program Fee : Rs. 55,440/- (inclusive of Exam Fee Rs. 6,000/- & Alumni Fee Rs. 800/-) Semester-wise payment: A student would pay the fees at the time of registration as per the schedule below. Payment of fee:
Payments shall be made in the form of pay order/ draft drawn in favour of "Sikkim Manipal University, DE" payable at location of issue and applicant should endorse the name, application number and centre code on the reverse of the pay order/draft. The students are advised to retain the counterfoil and photocopy of the pay order/ draft with them for their reference. Payment of fees can also be made by net banking / secured payment gateway facility provided by University.

Important Information
Online Registration in Distance Education
For new admissions, students can now apply for SMU-DE programs, re-register to the programs in the subsequent semesters and also submit their re-sitting application for appearing for examinations, making the necessary payments through either DD or Credit/ Debit Card or secure payment gateway of their choice. Student portal and important announcements: The online portal will allow students to login either through secure pin or password credentials, permit them to save draft, track the status of their applications. Students will also receive SMS/ email/ notification from the University during the course of the program. Overall, the online portal delivers excellent student-friendly features and a unique end-user experience.

Admission Policies
v The admission process is as per regulatory requirements. v Individuals with a will to upgrade their skills are encouraged to pursue the University programs. v The applicant has to submit a completed application along with relevant enclosures to the University well within the due

date.
v If the application is complete in all respects and the University is satisfied with the applicants eligibility and suitability for

admission into the respective program, the students will be granted admission for the MBA program.
v No candidate is permitted to pursue more than one program at a time from SMU-DE. v The University reserves the right to accept or reject any application. v If the applications received from the students are not complete in any respect, those students may be given provisional

enrolment at the Universitys discretion. Such students will have to submit the required eligibility documents as communicated by the University at the earliest, upon receipt of which their enrolment will be confirmed subject to the eligibility fulfillment. Provisionally enrolled students will be allowed to appear in the examinations only after their enrolment is confirmed.
v Every student who has enrolled in the program of the University will be provided a program guide that details the learning

pedagogy and methodology to take maximum benefit from the program. Students are expected to go through them in detail and follow the same.
v An identity card will be provided to students after their enrolment in a program. v Those students who are unable to complete the program within the specified validity period are required to register

themselves afresh through re-admission by paying the requisite fee as per the University regulations.

Withdrawal & Refund Of Fees:


Payment made other than the above forms will be at own risks. The fees once paid cannot be refunded for admitted students. The refund for rejected applications will be made after deducting Rs. 500 as processing fees. Once a student is admitted to any course of study by paying One-time Full Payment, usually no refund of fee is permitted on withdrawal for any reasons. A refund claim may however be admitted on merits, after due consideration of the request by the student and the amount to be refunded shall be within the limit stated below. Student seeking withdrawal or refund during the course of the programs, will have to forfeit fees payable up to the current semester in total and 25% of the tuition fee applicable for the remaining period of the program.

v Counselling Services: Students will be given counselling support through email/ phone. v Course Material: Comprehensive printed study material specially designed for independent study for both theory and

practical component, is supplied in batches to every student.

University Term-end Examination


The University term-end examination will be conducted either manually or online in a computer assisted mode. The details of the examination mode will be made available as a part of the Examination Regulations released by the University from time to time.

Credit system
The 'credit system' is followed in all programs, wherein each credit amounts to 30 hours of study.

Evaluation and Grading


The assessment system has been conceived, developed and administered on a rigorous and fair basis to bring out the best in students and prepare them for challenging careers. A student's performance is based on: a) Theory Papers: Theory part is assessed by the performance based on continuous evaluation through assignments and termend examinations conducted at the examination centers. The assessment ratios for University Examinations (U.E) to Internal Assessment (I.A) is 70:30. The I.A is based on assignments stipulated by the University. A student must get an average of 40% in both the parts and a minimum of 35% in each part to be declared pass. b) Practical Papers: The ratio U.E:I.A is 30:70 ( the ratio is reversed to give more weightage to stage-wise acquisition of skills). The assessment in practical part is based on the performance in Guided Exercises (i.e., day-to-day exercises) and Unguided Exercises the latter will be conducted on the last day of the practical sessions in each subject with an external examiner. A student must get an average of 40% in both the parts and a minimum of 35% in each part to be declared pass. Based on the student's performance, the following grading system will be adopted: A = Excellent (+70%) B = Very Good (+60%) C = Good (+50%) D = Satisfactory (+40%) E = Fail

Examination Results
The student is informed about the examination schedule and Examination Centre through the admit card and also through the website www.smude.edu.in. Eligible students will be given admit cards to appear in the term-end examination. Students will have to produce the identity card and admit card to appear in the term-end examination at the Examination Centre. The examination pattern is available in the program guide provided to the students. The results will be published on the website www.smude.edu.in and the marks card will be sent to the students. If a student fails to clear any of the papers (either in UE or IA or both), she/he has to re-appear for the relevant paper by applying to the University through the re-sitting application along with relevant fees, within the due date specified by the University.

Award of Degree
All successful students will be awarded MBA Degree by the University.

Right to amend rules


The University reserves the right to add/ delete/ change/ amend the syllabi, program structure, rules and regulations wherever considered necessary and appropriate without any prior notice. The students are advised to go through the website frequently where all circulars and important information will be hosted from time to time. Promulgation of any such information on the website in the form of circulars/ notices is considered to be adequate.

All the disputes relating to the University programs and activities are subject to Udupi, Karnataka, India jurisdiction only.
