WORK EXPERIENCE

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences is a prestigious medical college in the North
East region of India under Sikkim Manipal University, a subsidiary of the Manipal group, with
hundred undergraduate and MD/MS and DNB post graduate seats in various disciplines. The
institute has two hospitals associated with it, the STNM Hospital and Central Referral Hospital
and is the only well equipped hospitals in the whole state of Sikkim serving almost the entire
population.

I completed my three years training in General Surgery from Sikkim Manipal Institute of
Medical Sciences in February 2011. I enjoyed my training as the only DNB training candidate
and therefore got a pretty good amount of hands on over a variety of surgical procedures
including laparoscopic surgery.

I underwent a hectic but well structured training which included academics as well as
hands on training. After the end of my training, I continued as senior resident for six months
and found I was able to perform most of the surgeries independently that are expected after a
three years training.

I enjoyed my tenure in teaching undergraduate MBBS students especially final year

students, helping them prepare for their final professional examinations. I realized my interest
of teaching soon and was awarded with the theory classes of final year students while doing
senior residency.
