Music Night
The annual combined College Music Night was held in June this year. Students worked hard to prepare a variety of items for their parents, teachers and friends.
The Band, Primary and Secondary school Choirs performed, along with various soloists. Both Year 9 and 10 class bands displayed songs they had learnt in Semester 1 and the Percussion Ensemble, conducted by David Hopgood, presented a popular snare/tom tom work. The new music uniforms were worn for the first time at Music Night this year and displayed our students in a very professional way. Katrina Rycroft Music Teacher

SNOW TRIP
REC 2013 Snow Trip
During the second week of term 3, 22 students and 3 staff (Karen Pearce, Geoff Whitford and Lauren Green) headed off for a week in Howmans Gap, Falls Creek. After the long 14 hour bus trip we were greeted by beautiful, white snow.
The weather on the first day wasnt overly flash; a thick fog had blown in overnight and we could barely see our hand in front of our face! Although everyone managed to get some skiing or snowboarding in. The next three days were much better, with sunshine and clear skies and we were able to get in alot more skiing/snowboarding. With the help of lessons, everyone improved and with the weather on our side we were soon going down some of the harder and more challenging runs. Unfortunately our luck ran out on the last day and the fog came back but still we managed to get some runs done. Aside from a couple of injuries, the snow trip was very successful, with everyone enjoying themselves and many looking forward to going again next year. Snow Tripper

MULTI-ARTS PRODUCTION
Multi-Arts Production 2013
This years Multi-Arts Production held at the Hopgood Theatre on 22nd August celebrated the Music, Drama, Dance, Media and Visual Arts from both the primary and the high school. Our paper plane theme was used as a symbol of hope and personal journey and the image of the paper plane appeared as a dramatic device throughout the show.
The Year 7 Wakakirri dance One World, One Hope, One Dream was performed early in the evening and combined dance story telling with backlit projections to show global journeys. Other highlights of primary school performances included the Festival Choir songs, Aboriginal dance and a short film about what makes a good friend. The school band led by Ms Rykroft, played their upbeat Moves Like Jagger and other current repertoire followed with soloist Siobhan Flemwells Born to Try and the Year 10 Vocal Ensemble with piano accompaniment by Mr Helps and Ms Harding. Media clips interspersed the live performances, highlighting our Arts on film and the collaboration between drama, dance media and the visual arts. Mr Trebilcos Year 11 drama scene California Dreamin was presented as a very funny comedy sketch and captured the energy and talent in our drama students. This was contrasted with a poignant scene of newly found love and friendship in the short drama Boy Meets Girl which introduced the choir song Lucky. Drama and music collaboration continued with the Man in the Mirror combined choir song set to filmed images of Year 8 masked drama. Ms Jarvis conducted both the primary and high school choir and supported her students even though she was officially away on leave! Featured soloists included Lucy Riletts Faure Flute solo and Elika Erginas vocal solo A Thousand Years. Solo dancer Patti Pradzynska and the Gravity Dance Group also punctuated moments of vibrant Hip Hop dance. Larger ensemble performances included the high energy Year 9 dances, the paper plane masked drama scenes and the Stage 1 Creative Arts dance duo and trio who delivered an excellent standard of contemporary dance. The night could not have been possible without the dedication of our students who rehearsed diligently to prepare for the event. Our student sound and audio visual operator Tom Jackson enabled the show to have smooth transitions in between items with his precise cues. The Visual Art student display provided by Mr Scholfied, Ms Chai and Ms Wilson was also appreciated by families in the theatre foyer on the night. Thank you to all of our families who supported the students in their preparation. Many thanks to the teachers who volunteered before and after school, and during lunch times in the lead up to this special event. Well done to all who participated as it was truly a night to remember! Ms dLima Arts Coordinator

Subject Expo
Our Subject Selection/Course Counselling Expo was a huge success.
We are very pleased to say that approx.. 80% of our students and families attended the day to organise their course for 2014. Staff were busy for a full 12 hours talking students and parents through the options available to them next year and beyond. A lot of organisation went on behind the scenes to ensure the day ran smoothly, so a special thank you to staffinvolved. The bake sale proved a great success also, raising $584 for the World Challenge students towards their expedition to Cambodia/Vietnam next year. Alan Pfeiffer Deputy Principal

Visiting Japanese students
This term we welcomed 16 International students from Japan.
The students have had a busy time during their Study Abroad Program, visiting a local primary school to share Japanese culture, they did many activities including artwork and boomerang painting, having fun at 10 pin bowling, and touring some popular SA tourist attractions. They explored our southern coastline including Goolwa, Pt Elliott and Victor Harbor, and were delighted when they spotted whales, very close up! Also the mandatory visits to Cleland Wildlife Park and Haighs Chocolate Factory were a hugehit! These students are very fortunate to be the first to be welcomed in our new International Student Centre. The students loved their time with REC in South Australia! 12 of these students will return for a one year program 2014. We look forward to seeing them again nextyear. Hitomi will complete her Intensive English Studies at REC and will be moving at the end of term 3 to another High School. Yuka will remain at REC to also complete her Study Abroad Program ending in July 2014. We wish both the girls every success for theirfuture. Bronlyn Warnes International Student Manager

Primary Sport:
Thank you Coach from the R.E.C Year 3-4 Netballers
On behalf of our team we would like to thank Tracey for being our coach. She has taught us how to shoot, where to stand, how to be good team players and lots of other skills to help us play netball really well. We would also like to thank the parents and other people for making an effort to bring the kids to SUNA netball grounds and for helping Tracey. We would like to thank all the other people helping the netball committee, thank you to Peter the coffee man for coming out every Saturday and donating money to us so we could buy the equipment we need. There are lots of coaches, trainers, managers and helpers who support the sports teams from REC, so, on behalf of all the players we would like to say a big thank you because without them, Saturday and after school sport would not happen. Kyeema
2 of our primary classes again travelled to Kyeema conservation park this term to assist with the rejuvenation project led by Mr Grant Good.
This year is particularly significant as it marks a 30 year anniversary of this community service project. Over the years Grant estimates that 2-3 hundred thousand trees have been planted by our students. Ashlee from Mrs Pattersons said It was awesome! We planted 500 seedlings! When I grow up I want to do what Mr Good is doing. It was the best time I have ever had! Our sincere thanks and warmest congratulations go to Grant Good for receiving a Premiers Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service, a Parliamentary Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of Service to the Community from Mr Robert Brokenshire MP, and a bronzed plaque from National Parks and Wildlife Service that will be mounted amongst Grants work in Kyeema.
