PDDCS Summer Playscheme

PDDCS held its annual summer play scheme from 19th23rd August at Fulbridge Academy. The playscheme is a week-long action packed event for 5-13 year old deaf children and their siblings. It was a very successful year with several new children attending. Each day between 18-22 children attended along with a fantastic group of volunteers and parent helpers who all helped make this year lots of fun. Some of the activities included a Samba session, 2 football sessions with a coach from the Peterborough United Deaf Football team and a BSL signing session. One of the highlights was on the Tuesday when the children each designed and made their very own superhero hand puppet. The Mayor Of Peterborough, Councillor June Stokes came to visit us and even volunteered by getting on the sewing machine to lend us a hand. The trip on the Thursday was when 53 children, parents and volunteers went to Twin Lakes Park in Melton Mowbray. Lots of fun and laughter was had by all the children throughout the week and I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Iain Erskine, Headteacher of Fulbridge Academy for letting us use the venue and I couldn't have done it without the help of the many volunteers who gave up their time to help - Katie, Chyanne, Louisa, Nicky, Tom, Hayley, Qadeer, Alice, Samiya, Chris, Kirsty, Barry and Marian Liz Monaf, playleader. Chyannes Art
My name is Chyanne Golding. I'm an artist/ designer. I enjoy being creative and I see Art as a natural way for me to express myself. I particularly enjoy drawing and how this allows me to create images in a way that I see them. I enjoy working in a figurative and detailed way and I aim to make my work expressive and visually interesting through tone and mark-making. I feel, from my progression from G.C.S.E through to A Levels I am beginning to develop my own style and way of working. I particularly enjoy portraiture work and using animals and people as subject matter. I work towards my deadlines, work independently, am a creative thinker and am self-motivated. Anyone can buy any of my paintings or they can send me a photograph so I can paint it for them or they can give me their ideas like flowers to match their living room etc. It can be sketch pencils, paint, oil, pastels even chalks. The price depends on my time, how much paint I use and the size of canvas and delivery may be charged if needed. Deaf Football
Posh team up with PDDCS to offer football for deaf kids. Following the successful launch of the deaf friendly football last year, PDDCS are pleased to announce that Peterborough United have teamed up to deliver deaf friendly football in the city this season. The sessions will be at the Jack Hunt School every Monday from 7pm and the training is for boys and girls of all ages and abilities and is free with qualified coaches and communication support. The sessions are during term time only.

Parent Club The place to meet parents and carers of deaf children in the same boat as you in Peterborough. Parenting a deaf child has its own special challenges but there are people out there who go through it too and Parent Club is the place to meet them and share experience and knowledge. This group is especially for parents and carers of deaf children wed love you to come along and help add to its success. We meet three times a year and the dates will be on the website. We want to thank those who are now not on the committee for Congratulations Ally Lutton for being brave and all they have done; Liz, Debbie, Roy, and Jill. Tickets and passes through local charities for disabled children

Peterborough City Council (PCC) Children's Commissioning had 12,000 available to provide a short break wrap around service to provide families with tickets and passes to local leisure activities. The passes are for families in The City of Peterborough with Children and Young People aged between 0 and 19 who are eligible under the current short breaks criteria. Local parent groups were invited to apply for some of this funding to purchase tickets and passes. Family Voice Peterborough (FVP), National Autistic Society Peterborough and District Branch and Peterborough District Deaf Children's Society (PDDCS) were awarded 7440. Please contact PCC to see which other parent groups were awarded the remaining funding and who to contact to apply directly to them. To apply through PDDCS contact Liz on 07956 964666 or liz.monaf1@ntlworld.com. The tickets/passes available are Cinema, Laser Force, AMF Bowl and Lakeside Bowl. There is also a Big Sky event in November and an Activity World event in February being organised by PDDCS which this scheme has funded. Please note you do not need to be a member of any of the groups to apply as long as you are eligible under the current short breaks criteria. Tickets/ passes are limited and will be allocated based on successful application and in order of the date applied for.
