My Idea is based on the Twirling Dervishes, which is a form of religious meditation from Turkey. The story behind it and why they practice it, is about a mystical dancer who stands between the material and cosmic worlds. His dance is part of a sacred ceremony in which the Dervish rotates in a precise rhythm on the spot. He represents the earth revolving on its axis while orbiting the sun. One hand facing upwards and one hand face down, representing the body taking from "Allah" and giving to people. The purpose of the ritual whirling is for the Dervish to empty himself of all distracting thoughts, placing him in a trance; released from his body he conquers dizziness, and overall loses all distraction in the world. Helping him focus on love, unity and an understanding for all the things on this earth.

I want to create a short animation, because unlike my previous projects, I wanted something to be in motion rather than a static production. This is because I think within an animation I can express myself more, and create a sequence of visually exciting animation for people to watch and experience individually. I want to make this animation very abstract & colourful, yet have a distinct meaning running through it. This will be shown by using visual implications of colour and metaphor of the story and shapes to resemble the actions of the Dervish Whirling which will be expressed with combinations of rotational manner kaleidoscope effects, all together using Cg and 2D animation, to explain the Dervish story.

I also understand that undergoing this project, the story has a religious background, and by me doing this animation I hope I wont offend anybody in this religious practice. Personally the whole ideology and mysticism behind the story of the Twirling Dervish is incredible and different, that I hope I can adapt the story into something that will convey the story in both an art form, and religious meaning which will run throughout the entire animation to show the originality of where it came from and how each sequence will represent the series of events that takes place when the Dervish is performing.
